Animal Crossing: New Horizons Adds New Jump, Strafing, And Walking Backwards

The free 3.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrived ahead of schedule, adding exciting new content like the Slumber Islands, Resort Hotel, and the return of Resetti. Players were especially surprised by the new movement system, which lets you move one square at a time – perfect for precise movements, strafing, and even a little hop!

A new movement style is now available to help with building and decorating. While a tutorial in the Island Designer app explains how to use it, some players actually found it themselves.

A Reddit user shared that pressing the ‘L’ key now makes their character jump. Others have found this is part of a larger update to movement, letting players move exactly one square at a time by holding down the ‘L’ key.

Unlike New Horizon’s normal free-movement style, this new feature automatically aligns everything to the game’s grid. This will make it much easier to decorate, create paths, and reshape the land.

More than just useful, the new movements are simply enjoyable. Players are already brainstorming creative ways to use features like small jumps and backwards steps to show off their personality in the game—imagine moonwalking through town, for example!

The recently released 3.0 update includes a revised movement system, but that’s just one piece of what’s new. This update improves the overall experience and adds fresh content to the 2020 game, preparing it for release on the Switch 2 on January 15th. If you’ve already updated, you can find a guide to the first things to do in New Horizons 3.0 on our site.
