Mystery and thriller fans with a Paramount+ subscription have a hidden gem to enjoy in 2026. The film, featuring Tom Hanks as Harvard professor Robert Langdon, is now streaming on the service.
Beginning January 1, 2026, the film Angels & Demons will be available. Released in 2009, this mystery thriller is based on Dan Brown’s 2000 novel of the same name. It’s the second movie in Sony’s Robert Langdon series, following The Da Vinci Code by three years. Interestingly, while the book Angels & Demons happens before the story in The Da Vinci Code, the movie adaptation takes place after the 2006 film. Both films were directed by Ron Howard.
Each new Robert Langdon book features a fresh mystery and new characters, but Tom Hanks is the only actor who returns from The Da Vinci Code. He’s joined by Felicity Jones, who plays CERN scientist Dr. Vittoria Vetra. The film centers on Vern as she teams up with Langdon to find a stolen vial of antimatter, taken by a dangerous terrorist group connected to the Illuminati.
Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgård, Pierfrancesco Favino, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, and Armin Mueller-Stahl also star in Angels & Demons. Although the film was successful in theaters, it didn’t earn as much money as The Da Vinci Code, bringing in $485.9 million globally compared to its predecessor’s $758.2 million.
Despite mixed reviews, Angels & Demons was better received by critics than The Da Vinci Code. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 36% approval rating, which, while still considered negative, was an improvement over the 25% rating for The Da Vinci Code. In fact, it even outperformed the final film in the series, Inferno, which received the lowest score at just 23%.
Hollywood Keeps Trying to Reboot Robert Langdon
Sony’s Inferno, the third film in the Robert Langdon series, performed poorly, earning only $220 million worldwide and receiving a very low score on Rotten Tomatoes. Director Ron Howard and star Tom Hanks reprised their roles for this film, which, as of 2026, is the last movie adapted from Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon novels.
Since the movie Inferno came out ten years ago, Hollywood has made two attempts to revive the Robert Langdon stories as TV series. The first was in 2021 with The Lost Symbol, based on Dan Brown’s 2009 novel. Ashley Zukerman starred as a younger Robert Langdon in the series, which aired on Peacock. Despite getting better reviews than any other installment in the franchise (a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), The Lost Symbol was canceled after just one season of ten episodes.
Netflix is currently working on a limited series based on Dan Brown’s newest Robert Langdon novel, The Secret of Secrets. Carlton Cuse will serve as showrunner and co-writer for the adaptation.
The new series centers on Robert Langdon, a symbologist, who must act quickly to save a scientist and her revolutionary research that could fundamentally alter our understanding of the human mind. Tom Hanks and Sigourney Weaver, who previously played Langdon and the supporting role, will not be reprising their roles, so the producers are searching for new actors to fill them.
As fans wait for The Secret of Secrets, they can stream Angels & Demons on Paramount+.
