Angelina Jolie Tells Reporter Asking About an Angelina Jolie Biopic: ‘That Gets the Most Insane Question Award … Let’s Hope There Isn’t One’

As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a profound appreciation for the art of acting and the complexities it entails, I find Angelina Jolie‘s approach to her own life story being portrayed on screen both fascinating and admirable. Her commitment to maintaining a certain level of privacy while immersing herself completely in the lives of the characters she portrays is truly remarkable.

Angelina Jolie has portrayed numerous real-life characters during her award-winning career, including supermodel Gia Carangi, journalist Mariane Pearl, and opera singer Maria Callas. However, unlike these figures, she does not wish for her own life story to be made into a biographical film. When asked by The Sunday Times about what an Angelina Jolie biopic might entail, the actress herself promptly changed the subject.

Jolie replied, “That question takes the cake for being the most bizarre! As a public figure, I’m always mindful of others misinterpreting my life or thinking they know me. So, we were careful with Maria’s portrayal. Here’s hoping no one asks about my personal life next.

Jolie is at present a strong contender for an Oscar nomination for best actress, largely due to her performance in “Maria.” This film focuses on the last days of an opera singer, as she reminisces about her celebrated and tumultuous career. Remarkably, the actor mastered opera singing specifically for this role, to perform her live vocals during filming.

Once I stepped into the room with the piano, someone asked me to demonstrate my singing abilities, which triggered an intense emotional response. I inhaled deeply, let out a noise, and began to cry.” Jolie shared this experience with EbMaster, expressing that people often underestimate the amount of emotions stored within us, which significantly impacts our voice and ability to sing.

Jolie shared, ‘I’ve been harboring a lot for quite some time, and when that beginning and that particular sound came along, it felt like the best form of therapy I’ve ever experienced.’ In essence, she recommends, ‘Before you dive into traditional therapy and potentially invest too much time, consider enrolling in singing classes.’

Jolie further explained that singing opera allowed her to face her personal feelings towards her life, as it unearths emotions that one might otherwise avoid. Moreover, she pointed out that giving your all in an operatic performance requires facing your feelings and constraints head-on.

“Maria” streams Dec. 11 on Netflix.
