Anaconda Reboot Now The Franchise’s Highest-Grossing Movie In 28 Years

The 2025 film Anaconda is quickly becoming a popular entry in the franchise. This Anaconda reboot is a comedic take on filmmaking, featuring Jack Black and Paul Rudd as friends trying to remake the 1997 original. Their plans go hilariously wrong when a real, hungry snake attacks the movie set. Tom Gormican directed and co-wrote the film, which also stars Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, and Daniela Melchior.

According to Variety, Anaconda is expected to earn around $88 million worldwide by the end of its second weekend in theaters. So far, it has made $45.8 million in the US and $42.2 million internationally.

Once the movie reaches this milestone, it will have earned more worldwide than the 2004 film Anacondas: Hunt for the Blood Orchid in under 11 days. This would make it the highest-grossing film in the series since the original movie came out in 1997 and started the franchise. Here’s a look at how much money each film in the series has made at the box office:

Title Domestic Box Office Worldwide Box Office
Anaconda (1997) $65.6 million $137 million
Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004) $31.5 million $70.3 million
Anaconda 3: Offspring (2008 TV movie) N/A N/A
Anacondas: Trail of Blood (2009 TV movie) N/A N/A
Lake Placid vs. Anaconda (2015 TV movie) N/A N/A
Anaconda (2025) $45.8 million (& counting) $88 million (& counting)

While 2025’s Anaconda has earned a good amount so far, it still needs to make $49 million more to become the most successful film in the series. It has a good chance of reaching that goal, though, because it was released during the holidays, and films released around Christmas often continue to earn money steadily throughout January.

Despite launching into a competitive landscape with Paramount’s Primate on January 9th, the movie experienced a small drop in viewers – only 31% – during its second weekend. Combined with positive audience reactions – a 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B CinemaScore – this suggests it has a good chance of continued success.

The movie doesn’t even need to make as much money as the first Anaconda to be considered successful. With a budget of around $45 million, it likely needs to earn about $112.5 million in theaters to cover its costs. That means earning just $24.5 million beyond that would make it profitable.

The movie has a good chance of reaching its financial target. If Anaconda experiences a similar decrease in ticket sales next weekend, it’s projected to earn around $7 million domestically. This would bring it over 28% closer to its goal, and if international sales remain steady, it could reach over 50% of its overall target.
