It’s Bret Easton Ellis, the original author, who has raised questions about Luca Guadagnino’s alleged remake of “American Psycho.
There’s hardly been an adaptation of American Psycho free from debate. This graphic, satirical novel has faced numerous bans and rejections by publishers. As for the movie version directed by Mary Harron, it too encountered protests and intense struggles to secure appropriate ratings.
The proposed American Psycho remake by Luca Guadagnino sparked mixed reactions, yet the recent news about Austin Butler playing Patrick Bateman seemed to alleviate most fans’ concerns.
In an episode of his personal podcast, Ellis expressed some surprising skepticism not just about the actor’s selection, but also about the validity of the entire project.
Ellis tries to make sense of American Psycho rumors
In his podcast, The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, the author expresses surprising views about a supposed upcoming project, suggesting it may not be genuine.
On the World of Reel podcast, Ellis expressed his belief that the recent announcement is essentially just a test to gauge public reaction. “I get the sense it’s false information,” he stated. “I’ve heard whispers from various sources that no agreements have been made.
As a gamer, I’ve heard some rumors buzzing around about Austin Butler potentially playing Patrick Bateman, but let me set the record straight – I’ve got it on good authority that nothing’s been signed. The same goes for Luca and Scott Burns regarding their involvement in the project; no deals have been sealed yet. It seems like some false news has been circulating, supposedly to gauge audience reactions. So take this gossip with a grain of salt!
When news broke about the planned remake, both fans of the original book and those of Mary Harron’s first adaptation responded with a mix of feelings. However, the announcement of Butler as the lead actor shifted the conversation about the movie, albeit with one key condition:
Despite the fact that the official confirmation about Danielle Butler playing the main character, the infamous serial killer, hasn’t happened yet, reports indicate that an offer for her to do so might be coming soon.
In the preliminary reports, Ellis’ story can align with what Variety reported, as both sources remain anonymous. To put it simply, Ellis asserts he is not currently involved in the situation, according to his own account.
I’m uninvolved in whatever this may be, should it indeed exist. I don’t contribute creatively nor participate in any way. However, I stand to gain financially if something happens, but that’s the extent of my knowledge or involvement.
To put it simply, it’s possible that work is being done on the film without someone realizing it, which might raise concerns about the project. However, it could also mean that the movie is actually under production.
As things become more defined, we’ll keep you informed. For now, take a look at the recent twist in the character’s actions that makes him an excellent fit for the role of Patrick Bateman.
