Jason Biggs, known for his role in American Pie, is making his debut as a director. He’s moving away from comedy and taking on a thriller called Untitled Home Invasion Romance, which is inspired by the style of the Coen Brothers. Biggs will also act in the film, alongside Meghan Rath, Anna Konkle, Justin H. Min, and Arturo Castro. The movie is described as a darkly funny thriller.
In a recent interview with Variety, Biggs explained that he drew inspiration from the Coen Brothers’ thrillers – including films like Fargo and No Country for Old Men – when directing his new movie about a disastrous romantic trip. He also shared that he’s eager to do more directing in the future.
I really admire those filmmakers. When I read the script, it reminded me of the kind of stories they tell. I’m definitely not on their level, but they’ve always been a major inspiration for me.
The movie follows Kevin and Suzie, a couple going through a separation, whose attempt at a marriage-saving trip takes a disastrous turn due to a poorly thought-out plan. Actor Jason Biggs, who also directs and stars, calls the film a darkly funny story about a couple who realize they don’t truly know each other. He emphasizes that the movie centers around Suzie, played by Kate Rath, and considers it ‘her movie.’ Here’s the official description of Untitled Home Invasion Romance:
Desperate to save his marriage, an actor concocts a risky plan: he fakes a home invasion while he and his wife are on a romantic weekend trip.
Jason Biggs isn’t letting ‘American Pie’ Define His Career

Republic Pictures
Jason Biggs is known for his role in the American Pie movies, but he’s also taken on diverse projects like the critically acclaimed series Orange Is the New Black and the 2020 film The Subject, where he plays a filmmaker who finds himself under surveillance. Before directing Untitled Home Invasion Romance, he turned down a more typical, raunchy comedy to pursue a project that felt more personal and authentic.
This film isn’t similar to American Pie. I considered directing a project that was, but I decided it wasn’t the right fit. I enjoy those kinds of comedies and think I’d be good at them, but this new movie is different – it’s darker, more surprising, and has a bit more of an edge. It’s closer to the types of films I’m personally interested in these days.
Jason Biggs is poised to take on fascinating roles as an actor, and his growing passion for directing will likely add exciting new dimensions to his career. His latest film, Untitled Home Invasion Romance, is currently being shown at film festivals, but Republic Pictures bought the rights to release it worldwide in October, so audiences will likely be able to see it in theaters or on a streaming service soon. While Biggs doesn’t have another directing project planned yet, he’s thankful for the comedic series that made him famous and is open to what the future holds.
It’s amazing to still be working after 27 years since ‘American Pie’ came out, and I’m thrilled to have directed a film.
