Amazon’s upcoming TV series has added another well-known actor to its cast: a star from the Harry Potter films. Created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the show will feature Sophie Turner (known for Game of Thrones) as Lara Croft, and Sigourney Weaver is also set to appear.
According to Deadline, Jason Isaacs – famous for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films – is now part of the cast for the Tomb Raider series. While Amazon hasn’t officially announced the news, it’s currently unknown what character Isaacs will portray.
As a huge fan, I’m really excited about the Tomb Raider series! They’re keeping the exact plot details close to the vest for now, but it’s based on the popular video games, and will follow Lara Croft on her incredible adventures as she travels the world searching for lost and legendary artifacts.
I’ve always loved seeing different versions of this character on screen! Besides the animated movies, there have been a few live-action attempts. Angelina Jolie played her in a couple of films back in the early 2000s, and more recently, Alicia Vikander took on the role in 2018. We were all excited when it seemed like Alicia would be back for another movie, but unfortunately, some tricky rights issues ended up canceling those plans. It’s a shame, but hopefully, we’ll see more of her story told someday!
The Tomb Raider series created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge was first revealed to be in the works in early 2023, four years after she signed a comprehensive deal with Amazon. After a limited number of projects came to fruition under that initial deal, Waller-Bridge moved to a new agreement in 2024 that gives Amazon first consideration for her future projects.
Following her well-received performance in the latest season of HBO’s The White Lotus, Jennifer Coolidge is reportedly being considered for a role in the next Tomb Raider film. The White Lotus has been a critical and popular success, and Coolidge’s portrayal of Tanya McQuoid earned her Golden Globe and Emmy nominations – making it her most talked-about role recently.
Isaacs is a very active actor, particularly in television. He’s recently been in shows and films like Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, The Crowded Room, The Great, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and the 2021 film Operation Mincemeat.
