Amazon Game Studios announces the end of content updates for New World: Aeternum

On October 28, 2025, Amazon Game Studios announced they will no longer be releasing new content for their online game, New World. The recently released Season 10 update, called Nighthaven, will be the last one. New World originally launched in September 2021, inviting players to explore the fantastical island of Aeternum, a land filled with warring factions and colonial settlements. When the game came to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in October 2024, it was rebranded as New World: Aeternum.

The blog post explained that after four years of consistent updates and the launch of a new console, continuing to create new content for New World was no longer feasible. To show appreciation for the player community, both the Nighthaven update and the New World: Rise of the Angry Earth expansion are now available to all players for free.

Just wanted to clear things up about New World – it’s definitely not getting shut down! I’ve seen some people worried about that “sunsetting” thing, but the devs said that’s not happening. You can still buy the game on all platforms, and we can still grab Marks of Fortune and all that. If you’re a PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium member, you can still play it through there too. They’re planning to keep the servers running through 2026, which is awesome. They don’t have a firm date for when it will eventually go offline, but they promised to let us know as soon as they do. So, no need to panic just yet!

The team is committed to maintaining and improving New World with ongoing updates like bug fixes and server adjustments. They’ll continue to offer regular content such as world bosses and special weeks, but won’t be holding any holiday-themed events for now.

It’s been four years since New World launched on PC, and we’ve been amazed by the incredible support from our players. Your feedback has been key to making Aeternum the world it is today, and we’re so grateful for the journey we’ve shared. After four years of updates and recently releasing the game on consoles, we’ve reached a point where we can’t continue to add new content.

Season 10 and the Nighthaven update will be the last new content released for New World on both PC and consoles. This wasn’t an easy decision, but after careful thought, we’ve decided to focus on supporting the existing game. As a thank you to our New World community for your years of support, we’re offering the Nighthaven update for free. We’ve also made the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion free for all PC players so everyone can enjoy all of the available content.

We’ll share more specifics soon, but you can be confident that our servers will remain active through 2026, giving our players plenty of time to enjoy Aeternum. Also, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members will continue to have access to download New World: Aeternum.
