Amazon delivery driver praised after saving woman from fire

Okay, so this is pretty cool. I was reading about an Amazon driver who basically saved an 84-year-old woman from a house fire! He was making deliveries and noticed flames coming from her house, so he immediately called 911. Seriously, that’s awesome – a real hero move!

Officials say a fire started at a home on Street in Maryland around 11:13 AM on February 11, 2026. The homeowner was by herself in the basement when she noticed her dog barking, alerting her to the fire.

She went to check things out when she saw smoke coming from a window. Going upstairs, she then saw flames shooting up on her front porch through the front door.

Amazon driver helps pull woman from burning home

When a woman opened her back door to let her cats out, an Amazon driver spotted a fire and called 911. The driver then saw the woman trying to get out a side door and helped her get to safety. Luckily, her dog also made it out okay.

Almost 30 firefighters from Whiteford and Bel Air volunteer companies worked to put out the fire. They managed to get it under control in about 20 minutes.

The fire was started by improperly disposed of woodstove ashes, investigators found. The Maryland State’s Attorney’s Office reported the damage to the home and its contents was around $250,000.

After the incident, the state fire marshal urged residents to remember that ashes and coals can still be hot, even if they don’t look it.

Be careful when getting rid of fireplace ashes. Don’t store them inside your house, on your deck, or in your garage, as this can be dangerous. Instead, put the cooled ashes in a tightly sealed metal container and keep the container outside, at least 10 feet away from your home and any other buildings, according to officials.

In January, a dog in Oregon was hailed a hero for helping rescuers locate its owner, ultimately saving her life.
