Amanda Batula and Kyle Cooke announced their split over FaceTime. Batula told Marie Claire it was both sad and a relief, and she was glad they did it together. Their divorce, like their business Loverboy once was, is being handled collaboratively, and Batula emphasizes it’s an amicable separation. While fans strongly support Batula, Cooke is facing criticism online, with some calling him “toxic” and “emotionally abusive.” Batula worried about this reaction, admitting it even delayed her decision to end the relationship, as she didn’t want him to be attacked. She insists Cooke isn’t a bad person, just someone she couldn’t build a life with, and believes he doesn’t deserve the online hate. She wants to be the one to express any disappointment, not the entire internet.
As a reality TV fan, I’ve definitely noticed this pattern – it’s something The Cut recently called “I Love My Husband (Who Hates Me)” behavior, and it’s happening with a lot of celeb couples. Basically, it’s this push and pull where someone genuinely loves their partner, but also seriously considers leaving, all while worrying about what everyone else thinks. For me, what really struck me from what Caroline Batula said is how much the fan hate messed with her head. She said it made her doubt herself, and that’s a big reason why it took her so long to end things. She needed to be completely sure it was her decision, and not influenced by the show’s producers, her friends, or even the audience. Which, honestly, makes you wonder… were the producers subtly pushing her to leave too?
