The tragic incident at Sandhya Theatre, where a life was lost due to an uncontrolled surge of fans eager for a glimpse of their idol, is undeniably a grave matter.
On Friday, renowned Indian actor Allu Arjun was detained by the Hyderabad police in relation to a tragic stampede that occurred at the Sandhya Theatre on December 4, resulting in the death of a female spectator.
The event transpired when the actor unexpectedly showed up at a showing of his new hit movie “Pushpa 2: The Rule”. Following this incident, the actor, his security team, and theater staff have been taken into custody due to accusations involving culpable homicide that does not equate to murder. At 9:30pm, I, without intending any harm, made my arrival at the venue, unaware that I hadn’t informed local authorities ahead of time. My presence at the main entrance ignited a wave of excitement among the crowd, as hundreds of fans surged forward in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the star. The situation quickly spiraled out of control when security personnel, trying their best to maintain order, found themselves grappling with the chaotic gathering.
At one point, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand stated that neither the theater management nor the actors’ group had given any warning about their planned visit to the theater. Remarkably, he pointed out that the venue neglected to establish separate entrances and exits despite having advance notice of the visit.
In a tragic incident, a woman named Revathi, aged 35, along with her nine-year-old son, found themselves in a crowded area where they were both affected. Brave police officers managed to rescue them and provided immediate medical attention before they were taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, the child suffered injuries and was declared critical.
After the unfortunate event at Sandhya Theatre, Arjun shared on X: “Extremely saddened by the heart-wrenching tragedy. My sincere sympathies are extended to the suffering family during these incredibly tough times. I want to make it clear that they are not facing this pain alone and I will personally meet with them. Although I understand their need for privacy to mourn, I am fully dedicated to offering any help necessary to assist them in overcoming this difficult period.
The actor promised a sum of approximately 2.5 million Indian Rupees (which equates to around $29,480 USD) as aid to the bereaved family, and also vowed to take care of the medical bills for their injured child.
Simultaneously, “Pushpa 2: The Rule” has been breaking records at the box office, earning an impressive $125.8 million within its first week of release.
