Alleged UHC Shooter Once Interned At Civ Studio

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of immersion into the digital realm, I find myself both stunned and saddened by the recent revelation that one of our own, Luigi Mangione, is allegedly linked to a heinous crime. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Brian Thompson, and my thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

Fresh details are emerging concerning the suspect in the bold murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, such as his link to the gaming industry. It’s been verified that the 26-year-old suspect, Luigi Mangione, held a position at the Civilization studio Firaxis Games, according to a representative who spoke with Polygon.

It seems that Mangione’s LinkedIn profile indicates he served as a UI programming intern at Firaxis from May 2016 to August 2017, during which time he claimed to have resolved over 300 UI issues within the game. Moreover, in 2016, his supposed LinkedIn page suggests that Mangione was the founder and president of “Upgrade,” a student-led game development and research team at the University of Pennsylvania.

After completing his internship at Firaxis, Mangione’s subsequent positions appeared to be situated away from the game development industry.

On Monday, December 9th, Mangione was apprehended following his identification at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Subsequently, he was accused of murdering Thompson in Manhattan on December 4th. At the moment, Mangione is being held in Pennsylvania and will likely be transferred to New York for trial.

A law enforcement source, speaking with The Associated Press, stated that Mangione was found with a three-page, handwritten missive. This letter allegedly contained the statement “I make it clear that I acted alone,” and furthermore, it is said to have continued with an apology for any distress or pain caused, but asserted that such actions were necessary. The note also reportedly implied that those involved deserved what happened to them, describing them as unwanted pests.

In a court hearing, Blair County District Attorney Peter Weeks stated that during his detainment, Mangione was found with $10,000 in total, including $2,000 of foreign currency. The police revealed they discovered a 3D-printed black pistol and a 3D-printed black silencer inside Mangione’s backpack. Upon being questioned about his recent whereabouts in New York, Mangione reportedly grew quiet and showed signs of nervousness.
