As a longtime gamer and Marvel enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the release of Marvel Rivals. The game’s free-to-play model has got me intrigued, and I was keen to understand how the various currencies will work within the game. Thanks to the recent blog post by the devs, my curiosity has been quelled, and I must say, they’ve done a good job of explaining things in a clear and concise manner.
At launch, Marvel Rivals offers multiple types of currency. Here’s a breakdown of each one, including essential information you should know.
There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding Marvel Rivals, given that developers have revealed fresh costumes, stages, and characters representing various roles.
Regarding the subject of beauty products in our game, many players have been curious about the mechanics behind pricing and income generation. Given that it’s a free-to-play title, it’s expected that some monetization strategies will be implemented.
Lucky for us, developers disclosed all the specifics about the currencies and Battle Pass on their December 4 blog update.
All Marvel Rivals currencies explained
In this game, there are essentially three kinds of money or resources: Units, Lattice, and Chrono Tokens. Here’s a breakdown of their unique functions:
Units
People who participated in the beta stages will find Units quite familiar. These are the blue coins you earn upon completion of tasks, which can subsequently be used to purchase skins or packages from the in-game store.
You can acquire units not only by progressing through the Battle Pass, but also by accomplishing Achievements and participating in Events. Sometimes, these units can even be obtained for free, albeit in a restricted amount.
Lattice
In the Marvel Rivals game, Lattice serves as the top currency. It can primarily be acquired by buying it with real-world funds. Nevertheless, developers have hinted that some Lattices may also be awarded via the Battle Pass.
Lattice can also be exchanged to Units at a 1:1 ratio. In the US region, USD $0.99 equals 100 Lattice, while USD 99.99 can get you 11,680 Lattice.
Chrono Tokens
Unlike other game elements, Chrono Tokens are directly linked with the Battle Pass. They serve as a form of currency that can be used to unlock both standard free rewards and those from the Premium tier. By accomplishing tasks and participating in in-game events, players can accumulate these Chrono Tokens.
Skin pricing details
Regarding cosmetics and their cost, the majority of the skins will be offered as Bundles, which come with extra items from our store. However, if you prefer not to have these additional items, most skins can also be purchased separately. Purchasing the entire bundle will result in a reduced price due to the discount.
Devs have rolled out some examples of the bundle’s pricing and what they include:
- Standard Epic-Quality Bundle: 1,600 UNITS (Standard value: 2,200 UNITS, -28% discount)
- Standard Epic-Quality MCU Bundle: 1,800 UNITS (Standard value: 2,400 UNITS, -25% discount)
- Standard Legendary-Quality Bundle: 2,400 UNITS (Standard value: 3,300 UNITS, -28% discount)
Given that a single unit costs $0.99, approximately how much would the Standard Epic-Quality Bundle amount to? Well, considering it contains 100 units, you’re looking at around $16. This bundle encompasses five distinct items at an Epic level of quality.
- Costume/skin
- MVP animation
- Emote
- Spray
- Nameplate
Battle Pass details (Season 0)
The in-game Battle Pass offers both free and paid rewards. For $5 or approximately 490 Lattices, you can get the Luxury Battle Pass packed with items worth 8,000 Units. Conversely, the free tier grants players an epic-quality skin plus extra items.
Because the initial season will be shorter than usual, its cost differs from that of subsequent seasons. Fear not, though, as any unredeemed rewards can still be claimed during future seasons if you’re unable to finish the pass within this one.
