The annual Festival of the Lost is back in Destiny 2, offering players new weapons and rewards, including a standout submachine gun with powerful abilities.
This year, Bungie added two new weapons – Gunburn and Hushed Whisper – and also reintroduced Arcane Embrace with some updated abilities.
You can get each event weapon by playing the limited-time activity. This year’s activity is called Haunted Altars, and it’s a challenge for six players located on the Moon.

Meta analysis
The rewards for this event seem a bit disappointing. There are only three weapons available, and two of them aren’t very popular choices for players right now.
Bows aren’t keeping up in Destiny 2’s fast-paced action. They’re too slow compared to other long-range weapons like Scout and Pulse Rifles. Similarly, Shotguns aren’t as dominant in close combat anymore, as Spread Shot Hand Cannons have become more popular and effective.
There’s still reason to be optimistic. The Gunburn SMG, which uses kinetic energy, has a great set of possible perks, and one combination stands out as essential for players focusing on PvE activities. As demonstrated by the Everburning Glitz, combining Bewildering Burst and Kinetic Tremors is a powerful way to quickly eliminate multiple enemies.
Guardians know from experience with Multimach CCX that its second perk is incredibly powerful, especially when equipped on Submachine Guns.
The Festival of the Lost 2025 weapon rewards are now finished. Before you leave, don’t forget to look up the best possible builds (‘god rolls’) for top-tier Edge of Fate weapons like Mint Retrograde and Phoneutria Fera in Destiny 2.
