They took a lot of liberties with the book’s plot, but surprisingly, it works. It’s the best adaptation of her work I’ve seen so far.

Even though the movie occasionally feels overly sentimental, Reminders of Him manages to bring the emotional story to life on screen. Monroe delivers an outstanding performance and makes the character’s difficult past believable. The supporting cast, including Lauren Graham and Bradley Whitford, is excellent and helps draw the audience into the narrative.

While not flawless, Reminders of Him is the first movie adaptation of a Colleen Hoover novel that truly feels like a film. The beautiful settings give it a grander visual scope, and the story unfolds in a way that’s well-paced and keeps you guessing. Hopefully, future adaptations of Hoover’s books will follow this example, focusing on capturing the feeling of the story rather than just recreating it exactly.
