I’m absolutely blown away! Alex Honnold just announced he’s planning to free solo Taipei 101 – can you believe it? He’s saying it’s going to be the biggest, most challenging climb he’s ever done in a city, and the best part is, Netflix is going to stream it live! I’m already setting my alarm!
The climber announced on X that he plans to scale the almost 1,700-foot skyscraper without any ropes on January 23rd. The daring climb will be streamed live as part of a Netflix event called ‘Skyscraper Live’.
Alex Honnold became famous in 2017 when he climbed El Capitan in Yosemite National Park without any ropes – a remarkable achievement captured in the Oscar-winning film Free Solo. While he’s continued to tackle challenging climbs since then, he hasn’t often attempted large, highly visible climbs in cities.
I’m excited to announce that on January 23rd, I’ll be free soloing Taipei 101 in Taiwan! This climb has been a dream of mine for a long time, and it’s my biggest and most challenging urban climb yet – the tower is almost 1,700 feet tall! You can watch it live on Netflix starting Friday, January 23rd…
