Alex Botez’s Chess battle royale game ‘Chess Arena’ drops trailer as closed playtest goes live

Alexandra Botez, a popular chess player and streamer, just released the trailer for Chess Arena, a new fast-paced, battle royale-style chess game. Sign-ups for the first closed playtests are now open, giving players a chance to try it out.

Chess Arena, created by Millions of Monsters – a studio co-founded by Botez – takes the traditional game of chess and turns it into a battle royale where 40 players compete to survive.

This isn’t your typical chess game. Instead of taking turns, all players move their kings at the same time, creating fast-paced action on a large board. Like battle royale games, the playing area gets smaller and smaller, pushing the kings closer together until only one is left.

Chess Arena closed playtests are now live

Botez compares the game to a mix of Fortnite and chess, and the latest trailer perfectly illustrates that idea. Each king is a playable character with special abilities that can change the course of a battle, and players can customize their appearance with different skins while navigating the fast-paced action.

Players improve their abilities by earning experience points, both by defeating computer-controlled chess pieces and by eliminating other players’ kings. As they level up, they can unlock new chess pieces and increase their core stats like movement speed, how quickly abilities recharge, and the strength of their special moves.

For Botez, Chess Arena isn’t just a new way to play an old game. She wants to make chess more modern and easier for beginners to learn, while also offering experienced players a new and exciting experience.

I’m really excited about this new strategy game, and if you’re a chess fan looking for something different, you should check it out! You can sign up for the closed playtest over at chessarena.gg – I’m already signed up and can’t wait to try it!
