Aldis Hodge Compares DC’s Hawkman To Prime Video’s Cross

Aldis Hodge, known for playing Hawkman, says his character in the new film, Cross, actually shares quite a few traits with the superhero, despite the change in roles.

Tyler Hodge stars as Alex Cross in the Prime Video series. He told ScreenRant that, in his view, the detective and forensic psychologist is a hero, much like Hawkman in the DC Universe. Although Cross works in the real world of Washington DC, dealing with grounded crimes, Hodge thinks both characters share a common purpose: fighting villains and protecting people from those who would harm them.

Hodge shared that he loved comic books as a child. He believes comics and superheroes represent the struggle against injustice, as they consistently fight for what’s right and defend the vulnerable – much like the work Cross does every day.

I grew up on graphic novels and comics. I love anime. I’m addicted to anime.

I’ve always believed superheroes and comics were born out of a real need – a way to explore fighting back against things you couldn’t openly challenge. It was about imagining yourself with the power to overcome, and building a whole belief system around resisting whatever held you down. It’s empowering to think you could become super and fight for what’s right.

I believe Alex Cross really captures this idea. When I create a character, I always begin by focusing on their core honesty – what drives them, who they fundamentally are, their current situation, and what they’re experiencing. I need to know their hopes, anxieties, weaknesses, and strengths. While each character’s story is unique, understanding that inner truth is always my starting point for bringing them to life.

Cross is a thrilling crime drama based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross book series. The show centers on Alex Cross as he hunts serial killers, utilizing his expertise to understand their motivations. Alongside the investigations, the series explores his personal life and his efforts to protect his family from the risks associated with his dangerous profession and history.

Joining Hodge in the Prime Video series is a large ensemble cast including Isaiah Mustafa as Detective John Sampson, Juanita Jennings as Regina Cross, Alona Tal as Kayla Craig, Samantha Walkes as Elle Monteiro, Caleb Elijah as Damon Cross, Melody Hurd as Janelle Cross, Jennifer Wigmore as Chief April Anderson, Ryan Eggold as Ed Ramsey, Eloise Mumford as Shannon Witmer, Jeanine Mason as Rebecca, Wes Chatham as Donnie, Johnny Ray Gill as Bobby Trey, and Matthew Lillard as Lance Durand.

Cross season 2 releases new episodes every Wednesday on Prime Video.
