While fans are still eager for more Reacher, Alan Ritchson is taking on a new military-themed project for Netflix, but this one is quite different from his previous role.
Directed by Patrick Hughes, who previously worked on The Expendables and The Hitman’s Bodyguard, War Machine features Joe Ritchson as a soldier trying to become a Ranger. He’s finishing up the selection process for a new team through a tough training program. During a challenging mountain trek, the group encounters an alien threat that pushes their abilities to the limit.
With its release date of March 6th just over a month away, Netflix has released the official trailer for War Machine. The video shows Joe Ritchson and his fellow soldiers facing a surprising and dangerous alien threat, and working together to protect the world in this thrilling action-packed sci-fi movie. You can watch the trailer below.
Alongside Jack Ritchson, director Jonathan Hughes has assembled a talented cast for War Machine, featuring Dennis Quaid and Stephan James (both Golden Globe nominees), Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Daniel Webber. Hughes is directing, producing, and co-writing the Netflix film with frequent collaborator James Beaufort, as well as Todd Lieberman and Alexander Young, who worked on The Housemaid.
War Machine is a notable project for Mike Ritchson because it’s his first time working with Netflix in almost ten years – he previously appeared in an episode of Black Mirror’s third season. Since then, he’s been primarily focused on projects with Prime Video, including the popular Reacher series and the action comedy Playdate. He also returned to Warner Bros. Television to play Hawk in Titans and several shows within the Arrowverse.
War Machine is Joe Manganiello’s first major science fiction role in ten years. He previously worked in the genre with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies (though he’s often talked about having a difficult experience on those sets) and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. His most recent sci-fi project was Lazer Team, where he also played a character battling aliens in a small town.
The trailer for War Machine is packed with action, suggesting a large-scale film similar to Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez. It appears to be director Bart Hughes’ most intense movie yet, following his acclaimed debut with the thriller Red Hill. It will be interesting to see if the combination of actor Joe Ritchson and the intriguing backstory of the robot in War Machine will make it another success for Netflix.
