A new reality competition show called Non Player Combat has premiered on YouTube. It’s unique because the entire series – all four episodes – was made using artificial intelligence tools. The show was created by Tom Paton, a visual effects producer and the CEO of AiMation Studios.
The show premiered on YouTube on December 8th, and the studio is calling it the first reality competition where everything – from the contestants to every event – is created using digital technology. According to creator Paton, it’s a blend of popular titles like The Hunger Games, Fortnite, and Traitors, all directed by artificial intelligence.
Non Player Combat showcases six characters created using AiMation’s Omnigen-01 tool. This technology allows the characters to have unique personalities, make their own decisions, and possess detailed backstories. Among them are Travis Drake, a former Navy Seal, Micah Gray, a wilderness coach, and Eliza Cole, a character haunted by guilt.
How does Non Player Combat work?
This series takes place in a bleak, futuristic world where participants are pushed to their limits in a fight for survival. They must contend with dangerous wildlife like polar bears and snakes, as well as compete directly against each other in brutal challenges.
According to Paton, Non Player Combat showcases the exciting new entertainment possibilities offered by AI, demonstrating that it’s no longer a future concept but is happening now. He explained that the goal is to develop characters that feel more authentic and relatable than people often seen on reality television.
According to Paton, the show is designed for people between 18 and 35, especially those interested in gaming. He also pointed out that it was much cheaper to make than a typical game show, costing only 10% of the usual production budget.
He argued that if people are enjoying something, it doesn’t matter if it was created by AI. He believes entertainment value is all that truly matters.
The launch of AiMation comes after the studio released its first full-length AI-created film, ‘Where the Robots Grow,’ in 2024. This also happens at a time when the entertainment industry is actively discussing the use of AI in performance, including recent debate around AI actress Tilly Norwood.
