Warning: major spoilers for Netflix’s Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials.
Netflix has a new three-part mystery series called Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, based on the 1929 novel The Seven Dials Mystery. It’s full of unexpected twists and turns, and adds to Netflix’s growing collection of mystery shows.
The story Seven Dials starts with a party hosted by Lady Bundle (Mia McKenna-Bruce) and her mother, Lady Caterham (Helena Bonham Carter). The next morning, a guest named Gerry Wade, who was close to Bundle, is found dead under strange circumstances. Bundle discovers a letter referencing “Seven Dials” and decides to investigate the mystery.
I have to say, the mystery really thickens when Bundle keeps running into Superintendent Battle, played brilliantly by Martin Freeman. They’re both on the same trail, and it’s fun watching their paths collide. The big reveal? That ‘Seven Dials’ isn’t just a location, but a full-blown secret society! Bundle races to stop their next plan, but what he uncovers is genuinely shocking – a twist I definitely didn’t see coming.
Who Really Killed Gerry Wade In Seven Dials?
Gerry Wade and Bundle had a sweet moment at the party where Wade hinted he planned to propose. That’s why it was so shocking – and hard to believe – when he was found dead, seemingly by suicide, with an empty bottle of sleeping pills nearby.
Bundle discovered the bottle belonged to Lady Coote, making her and her husband, Sir Oswald, the main people she suspected. Her suspicions increased when she went to George Lomax’s event – where a group known as the Seven Dials planned to act – and saw both Lady Coote and Sir Oswald in attendance.
Throughout the investigation, Bundle relied on his friends Bill (Hughie O’Donnell) and Jimmy (Edward Bluemel), who knew Gerry Wade. During an event hosted by Lomax, Dr. Matip’s invention was stolen, and Jimmy was shot. Their investigation pointed to Wade’s sister, Loraine (Ella-Rae Smith), and they followed her to a train station, where Bundle and Bill finally discovered what really happened.
Loraine and Jimmy teamed up and stole an invention from Dr. Matip. They also eliminated anyone who threatened their scheme. Jimmy murdered Ronny, a friend of his and Bundle’s, because Ronny was starting to uncover their plan. Meanwhile, Loraine slowly poisoned Wade at a party, then staged the scene to look like a suicide or overdose by leaving the bottle near his bed.
Lady Caterham’s Twist In The Seven Dials Explained
Loraine and Jimmy stole Dr. Matip’s invention, but they had help. Loraine told Bundle they weren’t meeting a contact at the next train station because their employer was already on board. Bundle was shocked to discover that employer was actually her mother, Lady Caterham.
Lady Caterham was forced to confess to her daughter that she had orchestrated the theft of Dr. Matip’s invention. She also admitted that while she regretted the deaths of Ronny and Gerry Wade, she considered them unavoidable. Lady Caterham had organized the party as a way to learn about Dr. Matip’s work, intending to sell it abroad.
Lady Caterham felt deeply betrayed by her country following the deaths of her husband and son, who was killed while serving in the war. Facing financial hardship, she believed selling the works of Dr. Matip was the answer to her problems.
Despite asking Bundle to let her off the train before the police came, Bundle delayed her just long enough for Battle to appear. Lady Caterham, along with Loraine and Jimmy, were then arrested.
What The Seven Dials Really Is Explained
Until now, Seven Dials had made both the viewers and Bundle think that Lady Caterham, Jimmy, and Loraine were part of the criminal group. However, the show had one final surprise in store. Following her mother’s arrest, Bundle was brought by McDonald to meet the members of the Seven Dials, who had specifically asked to see her.
Bundle was shocked to discover that Battle was actually the leader of the group. She also learned that the Seven Dials wasn’t the villainous organization she’d thought it was. Battle explained that the Seven Dials was simply a loose group of people working together to protect their world during difficult times. This made sense of why Battle had been at Lomax’s event – she was there to safeguard Dr. Matip and his invention.
Battle then invited Bundle to join the Seven Dials, the same organization her father used to work for. He also revealed that her father had died while on a mission for them. Battle had been impressed by Bundle’s abilities during the investigation into Gerry Wade’s death and believed she would be a valuable asset to the team.
Once they explained the risky mission and why they needed Bundle’s help, she agreed to step in for her father as one of the Seven Dials.
What’s Next For Bundle & Battle After Seven Dials?
I was so thrilled to see Bundle join the Seven Dials organization at the end of “Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials”! It really feels like a setup for another season, and I loved how Battle hinted at a much bigger, more dangerous mission coming up. They’re going to need all the help they can get, and Bundle, with her quick wit and skill, is absolutely the right person for the job – and she’s already on board! I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Bundle and Battle will remain partners, and Bundle will hone her detective abilities with the assistance of the mysterious Seven Dials. The identities of the other members of the Seven Dials are still a secret, and a second season could explore this further while also following Bundle and Battle as they take on a new case.
