I’ve watched all seasons of Stranger Things, and my feelings about them are a bit mixed – I haven’t loved every one. I went into Season 5 Part 1 not expecting much, but I actually enjoyed it! It did a good job of building anticipation for what promises to be an exciting finale, and the beginning of the final season definitely deserved the big audience it got.
Season 5 Part 1 of Stranger Things is full of great moments, but Will Byers’ story (played by Noah Schnapp) was the most compelling part of the first three episodes.
Warning: Stranger Things Season 5 Part 1 spoilers are ahead. Proceed with caution.

I Love That The First Four Episodes Of Stranger Things Season 5 Focuses On Will Coming Into His Power And Identity
Over the past few seasons, Stranger Things has strongly suggested that Will is queer, and Season 4 largely confirmed that he’s gay. The show makes it clear that Will has romantic feelings for his best friend, Mike. While it’s never directly said, it seems likely that the first part of Season 5 will focus on Will coming to terms with and accepting his sexuality.
I think we’re going to see Will really step into his own power when he starts fighting Vecna’s monsters. It feels like a turning point where he finally accepts who he is, instead of hiding it. Honestly, I have a feeling the rest of the season will be about Will coming out to people like Joyce and Mike – finally being honest with them about everything.
As a fan, it’s been amazing to see so many LGBTQ+ characters taking the lead in shows and movies lately. But knowing Stranger Things is set in a time when that wasn’t common, it’s really powerful to me that Will is openly embracing who he is. And it’s not just acceptance for the sake of it – he’s becoming a central, important character, and that feels incredibly inspiring.
This moment will likely be very meaningful for many young LGBTQ+ teens, helping them feel more confident and accepting of who they are. It could empower them and strengthen their sense of self.

Making A Queer Character One Of The Main Powerful Beings Feels Very Progressive Especially For A Show Set In The 80s
Things have changed a lot since the 1980s. Growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s, seeing LGBTQ+ characters on TV felt like a major event. Now, it’s common – and welcome – to have queer representation in shows. So, while it’s great to see Will embrace who he is, it’s important to remember that coming to terms with identity in real life is often a difficult process.
I expect Joyce and Mike will be accepting when Will comes out as gay, though everyone might not react exactly as he hopes. Mike might be supportive of Will’s identity, but could still be a little distant, particularly if Will also reveals his romantic feelings. Overall, Will probably won’t get the perfect reaction he’s hoping for from everyone.
Will finally coming out as gay has the potential for really compelling and meaningful stories. Noah Schapp is sure to bring the necessary emotion and nuance to both the character and this storyline, and I’m excited to see how it all plays out in the last few episodes.
Life in Hawkins is chaotic with Vecna terrorizing the town, children disappearing, and everyone struggling to survive. While Will’s decision to come out might not be the main focus for the characters at this moment, it’s a significant development that I believe will be explored thoughtfully.

Robin And Will’s Bond Is One Of The Most Interesting Developments Of Stranger Things Season 5
Initially, I was a little surprised by the friendship between Robin and Will. But then I realized that, like Robin, Will is also exploring his identity. Robin’s coming out scene with Steve in Season 3 was really well done, and I hope the show handles Will’s journey with the same care. Given her age and experience as a lesbian, Robin is uniquely positioned to support Will, and their connection feels natural because she can help him navigate what he’s going through.
Witnessing her happiness with her girlfriend and her kind words to Will helped him feel more comfortable with himself. I believe she’ll continue to support Will as he learns more about who he is.

I Am Not Sure Will Survives Season 5 But His Journey So Far Makes Me Think He Might Now
As a longtime fan, I honestly thought Will was a goner for a while there. But learning how crucial he is to stopping Vecna… it feels like his death is supposed to happen, yet somehow I can’t picture it. I think his powers are going to be a double-edged sword – they’ll probably mess with him mentally and emotionally, but I don’t think it’ll actually kill him. Especially now, after realizing his abilities are so connected to him accepting who he is… it just feels too harsh to go there with his story.
It also diminishes the emotional impact and celebratory feeling of that scene. Furthermore, if Will were to die, it would unfortunately reinforce a harmful trope often seen in media. This isn’t about Will having to survive because of who he is, but given the way his story has unfolded, Stranger Things seems to position him as a symbol of hope and strength for young LGBTQ+ viewers. His death would lessen the empowering message of his journey.

I Like How Will Becoming The Key To Stopping Henry/Vecna Can Show How He Turns Trauma Into Power
Will Byers has been a central figure in Stranger Things from the very beginning, with the first season focusing on his mysterious disappearance. He endured terrible suffering at the hands of Vecna, leaving him with lasting scars. Now, in the final season, those scars are motivating him to seek justice and revenge against the monster who harmed him. Many fans believe Will is the one who should ultimately defeat Vecna, and he certainly deserves that chance.
I was so happy to learn he might finally have that chance. Will has the potential to transform all his past pain into the strength needed to save both his town and the world. Seeing Will confront Vecna in Season 5 of Stranger Things will be a truly powerful scene.
The final season has been really good so far, and I’m excited to see how the story wraps up. I’m especially interested in seeing Will continue to grow, both as he explores his identity and as a character finding his strength.
