Regardless of its age, Dead by Daylight remains the top-selling asymmetrical horror game currently available. Developer Behaviour Interactive continues to refine this game, with exciting updates planned. For instance, fans can anticipate the release of a new DLC based on Five Nights at Freddy’s in the near future. But before that, one of the killers, The Nightmare, will undergo an overhaul.

Freddy (The Nightmare) Rework in DBD Explained

By examining past rankings of characters in DBD (Dead by Daylight), you’ll notice that The Nightmare is often considered one of the least effective characters within the game. His power isn’t particularly beneficial and it’s relatively simple for survivors to neutralize him. As a result, the developers have decided to give him an overhaul.

  1. Currently, Freddy has Dream Snares as a default power, but players can use add-ons like Garden Rake to change it to Dream Pallets. The upcoming version of this killer have both powers at the same time, and you can switch between them during the match.
  2. Dream Snares will be changed, too. They will no longer be just stains on the ground. Instead, they will move forward in a straight line at a speed of 12 m/s. If they hit an awake survivor, they add 30 seconds on Sleep Meter. If the person is sleeping, he will be Hindered for 4 seconds.
  3. Dream Pallets, on the other hand, can be activated and explode within a 3-meter radius. If this blast hits a sleeping survivor, it makes them injured. If an awake survivor is hit, it will add 60 seconds on Sleep Timer.
  4. The teleportation mechanics have also been changed. Now Freddy can teleport to repaired and blocked generators. In addition, he can also appear next to healing survivors (if they are sleeping at the same time) and, after using add-ons, to the gates.
  5. On the downside, survivors can use any Alarm Clock to wake up and Freddy can’t cancel the teleport.

From my perspective, I find this revamp quite impressive, as Freddy no longer appears dull when played or faced against. Yet, it’s essential to remember that the current setup isn’t necessarily the definitive version of The Nightmare. The developers might still tweak things based on data gathered during the Public Test Build (PTB) phase.

Currently, the new Freddy version can be accessed exclusively on the Steam Beta Test Servers for Dead by Daylight. To explore him, simply right-click on Dead by Daylight in your Steam Library, then choose ‘Properties’. After that, click on the “Betas” Tab and select “public-test” from the options available.
