While The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is now considered a classic, it’s not perfect. A long-standing issue has been its clunky interface, which feels better suited for a console and TV setup than for a PC with a mouse and monitor.
As a huge fan, I have to say SkyUI was a total game-changer! It completely revamped the game’s interface, making it so much better for PC players. And it’s clearly not just me who thinks so – the original version has been downloaded almost 26 million times from Nexus Mods, and the Special Edition version is right behind it with 23 million downloads! It’s incredible how popular it became.
The project was discontinued in 2017, and fans had largely accepted that it wouldn’t be updated again. That’s why the unexpected release of version 6.0 was such a welcome surprise.
This update improves SkyUI and makes it compatible with the newest version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (a new version for the original Skyrim wasn’t released). Previously, getting these improvements meant installing several extra mods. Now, the SkyUI creators have included fixes developed by the fan community directly into the mod itself.
The mod now works with more screen sizes and shapes. In addition to the common 16:9 format, you can also play using ultrawide (32:9, 21:9) or older 4:3 displays.
The interface changes offered by SkyUI are very positive. This is clearly visible, for example, in the inventory screens.
A great benefit is that the creators have released the SkyUI code on GitHub, meaning others can contribute to its development and improvement.
Development is happening rapidly, and we’ve already released several updates to the new version. Version 6.0 launched just recently, and as of today, version 6.4 is now available.
