Adrien Brody earned an additional golden trophy for his shelf by winning the Best Actor in a Drama award at the Golden Globes for his performance in “The Brutalist” on Sunday evening.
In the grand narrative crafted by director Brady Corbet, Brody plays a pivotal role as a Holocaust survivor and renowned Hungarian architect. Over the years following World War II in America, he becomes entangled with a dangerous and domineering patron, portrayed by Guy Pearce, who exerts a poisonous influence on him.

Greetings everyone, I’m truly grateful for your presence here today. To the Golden Globes voters, I am profoundly humbled by this honor bestowed upon me. There’s much I’d like to share but I’ll try to keep it concise. At the heart of “The Brutalist,” we find a tale exploring the incredible power of human creativity. It would be a disservice not to acknowledge my fellow nominees: Daniel Kaluuya, Richard Madden, Timothée Chalamet, Sebastian Stan, both Sebastians (Rock and Yelchin), and Ralph Fiennes. Each of you has scaled such impressive heights with your performances and serve as a constant inspiration to me. To Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this incredible achievement – a testament to humanity and the arts.
Hello all! Thanks for being here. Golden Globes voters, I’m deeply humbled by this award. There’s much I want to say but will keep it brief. At the core of “The Brutalist,” we find a story about human creativity. So, I must acknowledge my fellow nominees: Daniel Kaluuya, Richard Madden, Timothée Chalamet, Sebastian Stan, both Sebastians (Rock and Yelchin), and Ralph Fiennes. You all have achieved so much with your work and inspire me greatly. To Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold, thank you for giving me the chance to contribute to this fantastic accomplishment – a tribute to humanity and art.
To everyone involved in bringing this movie to life, this is a shared accomplishment, and I’m honored to celebrate it with each one of you. A heartfelt thank you goes out to my friends and colleagues at CAA and A24 for standing by me on this incredible journey. And to my parents here tonight, oh wow! You have been the pillars that held me up throughout my life. I’ve always acknowledged my mother’s artistic influence in my life, but let it be known that you, Dad, are the rock of our family. The love and support I receive flows back to you.
To my lovely and extraordinary partner, Georgina: Your selfless nature, your strength, and your incredible creativity inspire me every day. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. There was a period not so long ago when I thought this moment might never come again, so thank you.
This tale reminds me of my mother’s, as well as my ancestors’, odyssey fleeing war and finding refuge in this wonderful nation. Their sacrifices have shaped my life immensely, and though I may not fully capture the hardships you’ve endured or the struggles many immigrants face, I hope that this work offers a small uplift and a platform for your voice. I am deeply thankful, and I will hold this moment dear forever.
The nearly three-and-a-half hour long movie, featuring Felicity Jones and Alessandro Nivola, delves into the aftermath of owning something that can’t be owned, such as inspiration. Director Corbet previously shared this with EbMaster this year.
In a competitive category, Brody emerged victorious in the Globe Awards for the first time, besting his fellow nominees: Ralph Fiennes (“Conclave”), Colman Domingo (“Sing Sing”), Timothée Chalamet (“A Complete Unknown”), Daniel Craig (“Queer”), and Sebastian Stan (“The Apprentice”).
At 29 years old, Brody garnered the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2002 drama “The Pianist,” making him the youngest winner in that category to this day. Beyond his roles in movies like “The Thin Red Line,” “Midnight in Paris,” and “Blonde,” Brody has enjoyed a successful collaboration with filmmaker Wes Anderson, appearing in various Anderson projects such as “The Darjeeling Limited,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” and the upcoming “Asteroid City.
