‘Adolescence’ Director Philip Barantini Sells Stake of Production Company to Avalon

Philip Barantini, the acclaimed director of the movies “Boiling Point” (2019) and the popular Netflix series “Adolescence,” together with his frequent collaborator Samantha Beddoe, have given a portion of their production company It’s All Made Up Productions to Avalon.

Last year, talks started between the up-and-coming indie and a prominent British talent management and independent production company, marking the beginning of their strategic alliance.

Based in London, with upcoming operations in their hometown of Liverpool, Barantini and Beddoe have a pipeline of projects underway for broadcasters, studios, and streaming services across the U.K. and U.S. Their focus lies primarily in TV dramas, films, and documentaries. They are determined to give voice to lesser-known narratives and underrepresented stories.

In this rephrased version, I’ve tried to maintain the original meaning while using simpler language and a more conversational tone.

As a cinema enthusiast, I can’t hide my excitement as I share our vision: we aim to craft compelling narratives that echo within hearts and challenge minds, across films, TV shows, and documentaries. Our love for this art form and its roots runs deep, and partnering with Avalon will propel us towards even greater heights.

Beddoe expressed his excitement: “We’re thrilled to unveil our collaboration with Avalon. They share our unique work approach; we’re an autonomous firm that prioritizes creativity above everything else, producing top-tier dramas, movies, and documentaries aimed at a global audience. Avalon can assist us in achieving this goal, and we eagerly anticipate our shared journey.

Beginning his journey in the film and television industry, Barantini initially found success as an actor in critically acclaimed dramas like “Band of Brothers,” “Dream Team,” and “Chernobyl,” as well as films such as “Ned Kelly.” He then transitioned to directing, garnering praise for his work on the award-winning feature film “Boiling Point” and television shows including “The Responder,” “Malpractice,” “Accused,” and a four-part spin-off of “Boiling Point.”

More recently, Barantini’s four-part Netflix drama titled “Adolescence” has gained significant popularity. Within just three weeks of its release, it had amassed 96.7 million views, earning a spot among Netflix’s global top 10 all-time most-watched TV shows.

Beddoe commenced her professional journey in the field of production finance, managing and overseeing budgets for Disney, Lucasfilm, FX Networks, BBC, among others. She served as executive producer for the film “Boiling Point” and co-produced “Accused,” alongside Barantini, for Netflix. Other notable works under her belt are “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “Atlanta,” and “The Acolyte.

According to Avalon’s CEO, Laura Kennedy, Sam and Phil are exceptionally skilled producers who possess an exceptional sense of taste and a creative eye. She is delighted that they will be collaborating with us in the expansion of their company, as well as the array of exciting projects they have planned for the future.

It’s All Made Up Productions has representatives both in the UK (Independent Talent) and the US (CAA, Johnson, Shapiro, Slewett & Kole), while it is managed by Untitled in the United States. The transaction was facilitated by Lucy Strauss, Alistair Mavor, and Ria Sadrudin from Lee & Thompson.

Hasham Khan from ABP Advisory recommended It’s All Made Up Productions, while David Strong at Marriott Harrison provided advice for Avalon.
