Singer Adele, famous for hits like “Hello” and “Rolling in the Deep,” is reportedly making her acting debut in a new film directed by Tom Ford. Ford, who previously directed “A Single Man” (2009) and “Nocturnal Animals” (2016), is currently preparing to film an adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1982 novel, “Cry to Heaven,” with Adele taking on a leading role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harrison Ford will write, produce, and direct the upcoming film adaptation of Anne Rice’s novel. The story is set in 18th-century Italy and follows a Venetian nobleman and a castrato opera singer as they navigate the competitive world of opera. While details about Adele’s role are currently being kept secret, the film’s focus on music suggests she’ll be a natural fit. Cry to Heaven is now in pre-production, filming in London and Rome, and is scheduled to begin shooting in mid-January, with a planned release in the fall of 2026.
After finishing her Las Vegas shows and European tour at the end of 2024, Adele plans to take a significant break from making music. She wants to explore other creative projects, and her first appears to be the film Cry to Heaven. The movie boasts a fantastic cast, including Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Hunter Schafer, Josephine Thiesen, Thandiwe Newton, Theodore Pellerin, Daryl McCormack, Cassian Bilton, Hauk Hannenmann, Lux Pascal, and Owen Cooper, who recently starred in Adolescence.
Adele Is the Latest Singer to Transition to Acting

Warner Bros. Pictures
Adele isn’t alone in moving from singing to acting – many artists have successfully done it before. Jennifer Lopez, Mark Wahlberg, and Jennifer Hudson are just a few examples. Lady Gaga is another standout, having earned praise throughout her career. She first starred in a major film in the 2018 remake of A Star Is Born, playing a hopeful singer alongside Bradley Cooper. She’s also appeared in films like Machete Kills and House of Gucci, and is set to be in Joker: Folie à Deux. Plus, she’s had roles on TV shows like American Horror Story and, recently, Wednesday.
