ChillyRoom recently announced Loulan: The Cursed Sand, a new action RPG inspired by the ancient Silk Road in Western China. It’s planned for release on PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), though a specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet.
Game director Hongwen Huai recently shared details about their new game on the PlayStation Blog as part of the China Hero Project. He explained that the game’s story was inspired by the discovery of the “Xiaohe Princess.” Players will follow The Cursed Sand, an undead warrior, on a journey to locate the lost Princess of Loulan.
Hongwen explains that the game is being developed by a 16-person team working across different locations. They’re taking inspiration from the classic game God of War and older arcade action titles.

Loulan: The Cursed Sand is an action role-playing game set in ancient China along the Silk Road. The game follows a former royal guard who returns to his ruined homeland of Loulan during wartime, searching for the princess he loves. It’s a story of tragic romance and conflict.
I get to play as this awesome skeletal warrior called “The Cursed Sand”! Basically, I control sand to get around and figure out puzzles in a really dangerous world seen from above. The combat is super realistic – it’s tough, I’m always outnumbered, and I have to beat some seriously powerful enemies. Plus, I’m trying to figure out what’s going on with my own curse, which is pretty heavy stuff.
