Abbott Elementary has to introduce a crucial character, according to star William Stanford Davis.

Chris Davis was one of the original cast members of Abbott Elementary, but even though he’s been on the show since the beginning, his character, Mr. Johnson, remains largely a mystery. We mostly learn about him through the funny, exaggerated stories he tells.

During a conversation with Tatiana Hullender from ScreenRant, actor Keith Davis discussed what he’d like to see happen with his character, Mr. Johnson, in future episodes. He expressed a desire for the show to introduce Mr. Johnson’s mother, and shared his ideas about how their relationship could play out.

I’ve shared some ideas with the team, but I’m keeping the actresses I suggested private. I think we should definitely meet Mr. Johnson’s mother, though. He really listens to her – he completely changes around her, almost like a child. I’ve let them know this, but they don’t seem to take it seriously. [laughs]

What Introducing Mr. Johnson’s Family Would Mean For Abbott Elementary

A sixth season of Abbott Elementary is happening, and season five has given us the most in-depth look at Mr. Johnson’s character yet. He develops a relationship with Miss Carroll, a fellow janitor played by Khandi Alexander. Initially, Johnson is hesitant about pursuing romance, but with support from his colleagues, he finds a way to make it work.

Despite delivering some of the funniest lines on Abbott Elementary, Mr. Johnson remains a bit of a mystery. He’s hinted at a complicated past, but his stories don’t quite add up, and the show never clarifies things. Exploring his background – perhaps by introducing his mother in a few episodes – could really help explain what makes him such an intriguing character.

Bringing in Mr. Johnson’s family would follow a pattern established by the show, which has a history of introducing relatives for most of its main characters. While his family might be a bit unusual, it could also answer some questions that have been building up over the series. However, the show’s creators might prefer to keep some mystery around Johnson, as that approach has been successful so far.
