Aaron Paul, Jacob Tremblay Join Adaptation of Jo Nesbo Horror ‘The Night House’ for ‘Split’ Producer, Protagonist Launching at EFM (EXCLUSIVE)

In the forthcoming horror movie “The Night House,” Aaron Paul and Jacob Tremblay will face off against ghostly apparitions and terrifying specters, as they bring to life a chilling adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s top-selling novel.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that this intriguing project hails from the genius mind of genre master Steven Schneider, renowned for his work on “Split,” “Insidious,” and “Paranormal Activity.” He’s partnered with Fredrik Wikström Nicastro of Hope Studios, who has left an indelible mark on films like “A Man Called Otto” and “Borg vs. McEnroe.” The directorial helm is graced by Jesper Ganslandt, known for his work on “Falkenberg Farewell,” “The Ape,” and “Snabba Cash.

Protagonist Pictures is debuting global distribution for a film at the European Film Market in Berlin. Williams Morris Endeavor Entertainment (WME) and United Talent Agency’s Independent Film Group are jointly handling the U.S. distribution rights.

In this psychological horror movie, Tremblay (known for “Room” and “Good Boys”) and triple Emmy winner Paul (“Breaking Bad,” “The Last House on the Left”) take on the roles of younger and older versions of the main character named Richard. More cast members are being considered at the moment, with announcements to follow shortly. The film is now in the early stages of production and is scheduled to be filmed this summer, primarily in Álava, Spain.

Nesbø and Ganslandt penned the script. The executive producers include Nesbø, Jonas Fors, Niclas Salomonsson, and Juan Solá from Federation Spain, as well as Dave Bishop, George Hamilton, and James Pugh from Protagonist Pictures.

According to the movie summary: After the passing of his parents, teenager Richard (Tremblay) moves in with relatives in the secluded town of Ballantyne. During a harmless prank call from a phone booth, Richard unexpectedly sees one of his schoolmates brutally vanish into the telephone receiver. The authorities suspect Richard, and only Karen – another outcast teen – believes his account. As they attempt to decipher their friend’s mysterious demise, Richard and Karen come to realize they have awakened terrifying supernatural forces. In this chilling reimagining of a horror classic, as the line between fact and fiction becomes unclear, we are left questioning: Can we truly rely on Richard, and can he even trust himself?

Protagonist’s Bishop is delighted to announce that Jo Nesbø’s spine-tingling adaptation of ‘The Night House’ is coming to our buyers. Bishop praised the project, saying it boasts a remarkable cast and production team who excel in horror, ensuring an unforgettable experience for viewers.

As I reflect on our exceptional cast, I can honestly say that having Jacob and Aaron in the leading roles for this film exceeds all my expectations. We’re not just colleagues, but we share a common vision – to create an unnerving psychological horror unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. That’s Ganslandt speaking here!

Nicastro, the founder and CEO of Hope Studios, expressed: “It’s a privilege to adapt work from one of the world’s top storytellers, and it speaks volumes about the captivating plot and Jesper’s chilling interpretation that we’ve attracted talented actors like Jacob and Aaron to lead our production.

According to Schneider, “Jo Nesbø’s The Night House promises to be an eerie, innovative, and intensely captivating horror story. I’m excited about the prospect of working with the incredibly talented Jesper Ganslandt, Hope Studios, and the remarkable actors Aaron Paul and Jacob Tremblay. Together, we aim to create something truly extraordinary that will leave a lasting impression!
