Be warned, this contains minor spoilers for the September 23rd episode of *The Voice* Season 28. If you didn’t catch the second night of auditions, you can watch it now with a Peacock subscription.
I’ve watched *The Voice* for 28 seasons, and I thought I’d seen it all, but Jacob Ryan Gustafson’s Blind Audition was truly something special! He used his performance to propose to his girlfriend, and honestly, I was completely captivated – especially by the coaches’ reactions. Michael Bublé’s words were just so sweet and genuine, it was a beautiful moment!
The new season of NBC’s singing competition started this week, and it’s already delivering memorable moments. Highlights include Niall Horan meeting a devoted fan and the debut of a new segment called Carson Callback. But the biggest surprise so far came from contestant Jacob Ryan Gustafson, who performed Morgan Wallen’s “Spin You Around.”
Though the judges didn’t select him, the 35-year-old firefighter from California was happy with his performance. He then asked if his girlfriend, Jennifer, could join him on stage, explaining she was his inspiration for auditioning.
I feel incredibly lucky to be alive, and honestly, if I could change one thing, it would just be to share your last name with you.
Jennifer started crying when her partner knelt to propose. She said yes, and the coaches watching were completely stunned. Suddenly, Snoop Dogg rushed onto the stage, yelling:
Oh go ahead, Jacob! Go get her, Jake! Get her, Jake!
After the rapper finished, Michael Bublé, Reba McEntire, and Niall Horan joined him on stage to celebrate with the happy couple while Snoop Dogg continued to excitedly cheer. It was so sweet when Bublé turned to the singer and said:
OK, so you won The Voice.
Isn’t that lovely? Snoop Dogg also appreciated the feeling, saying, “That’s the win. That’s the win right there, brother,” and the singer of “Just Haven’t Met You Yet” went on to say:
Jacob’s audition on The Voice was a heartwarming reminder that success isn’t always about getting a chair turn. Even though the coaches didn’t select him, the one person whose approval mattered most – his loved one – was there to support him, making it a truly beautiful moment.
Okay, so I’ve always enjoyed Michael Bublé’s playful banter on *The Voice*, but what really struck me during this audition was his genuine warmth. It’s a really sweet moment, and it includes a completely unexpected proposal! You’ve *got* to see the audition and the coaches’ reactions – it’s all down below.
Even though no one joined a team during this audition, it was a standout moment from Night 2. We also saw Ryan Mitchell return and use his Carson Callback, performing a surprising rendition of Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time” that caught Reba McEntire’s attention and made her press her button.
I was really hoping the Carson Callback would last longer, and I’m still wishing the host could get another chance to participate now that everyone understands how it works.
Season 28 of *The Voice* has just begun, and we can expect even more exciting moments! Watch new Blind Auditions next Monday, September 29th, at 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC, or stream the episodes the next day on Peacock.
