For approximately the next three years, the independent first-person shooter game, Fortune’s Run, will not receive updates because its lone creator, who goes by the name Dizzie, will be serving a prison sentence during that time.
In a recent update on the game’s Steam page, Dizzie revealed some personal matters that will impact development. He’s been given a three-year prison sentence. Though it’s a complex tale, he had a life far removed from game development before, and his past wasn’t exactly stable.
For five long years, I’ve been dealing with a legal issue while simultaneously working. Recently, I was declared guilty and received a sentence that requires me to serve time, starting next month. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the price I pay for my past decisions.
In simpler terms, according to Dizzie, Fortune’s Run is a fast-moving game that combines melee combat, shooting, platforming, and role-playing elements in an immersive setting. However, its other developer has recently departed from the project. As per Dizzie, one of the reasons for this departure was a series of difficulties she experienced following a surgery that didn’t go as planned.
Dizzie mentioned that another team member has exited the project. After her surgery, she found she no longer wished to continue with game development. As the lead for Quality Assurance and certain level sections, her departure left these areas unattended, leading me to handle things independently for a while. It’s been challenging working alone, but somehow I’ve managed to finish all the tasks in time so that they could be released before my departure.
Given our separation, the project has to be temporarily halted until I become available again. I realize some of you may feel frustrated or disheartened, but do try to grasp that I have no control over the situation. The processes were already underway even before I started working on this game, and unfortunately, it’s been a struggle for me to keep things moving smoothly.
The developer mentioned that he no longer finds himself in a financially critical situation because Fortune’s Run managed to sell reasonably well, and furthermore, he expressed confidence that he would be capable of paying the rent upon his release from prison.
He mentioned that it’s possible that within a few years, I might be able to seal the ongoing process. Interestingly, there isn’t much more content left to finalize, as I’ve been creating placeholders and preliminary versions of the remaining levels in my free time.
Dizzie pointed out that while the game isn’t completely extinct, regrettably, more unfavorable events have occurred, making its future uncertain.
It’s not publicly disclosed who Dizzie is or the crime he’s serving time for, but in his blog post, he acknowledges that his imprisonment is due to violent actions on his part.
He acknowledged, “In the past, I was prone to great aggression, causing harm to many individuals throughout my life.” However, it seems this confession won’t mend anything, as we are already aware of such behaviors.
Additionally, Dizzie mentioned that a new Fortune’s Run update is being prepared for release, and it will be unveiled prior to him starting his prison term.
Hey there! I’ve got an exciting tidbit to share – the update, you know? It’s so compelling that I can’t wait to shine a spotlight on it in my next post. It just doesn’t feel right to squeeze the patch notes at the end of this article like they’re a secret footnote. Can’t wait for you all to check it out!
