Although the second installment of the Citizen Sleeper series hasn’t hit the shelves just yet, its creator has confirmed that he’s already developing the third one. But, it won’t follow the typical pattern you might anticipate.
During a conversation with Sports Illustrated, the creator Gareth Damian Martin shared that he’s finished with video games, and while there isn’t a full-blown sequel for Citizen Sleeper 2, it does have an ending of sorts. Instead, he is focusing on creating a tabletop game which will be known as Citizen Sleeper 3.
Martin mentions his intention to utilize the knowledge gained from creating the two Citizen Sleeper games and direct it towards a fresh project. He shared that what initially attracted him to independent video game development was the warm reception and enthusiasm for novel concepts. “I’m always eager to present something new and observe people’s reactions,” he stated. “Moving forward, this will be my next venture.
It’s not surprising that the third installment of this series is returning to its origins as a tabletop role-playing game, given that it takes cues from traditional RPGs and features gameplay involving dice rolls for actions.
On January 31st, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is set to debut for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Simultaneously, it will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass on its launch day. The sequel unfolds a year after the original game’s events, introducing an entirely fresh narrative and cast of characters.
The first Citizen Sleeper sits at a favorable score of 82 on TopMob’s sister site, Metacritic.
