The Monsterverse franchise will continue with Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, scheduled for release in 2027. Even without a trailer yet, fans are already speculating about the plot and how Godzilla and Kong will face a new worldwide danger. Although it’s not official, growing evidence suggests that SpaceGodzilla, a cosmic version of Godzilla, will be the main villain in the new film.
SpaceGodzilla has only been in one major movie so far: the 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. In that film, he was an incredibly powerful opponent who almost defeated Godzilla. If the new SpaceGodzilla in the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is as dangerous, Godzilla and Kong will need to become much stronger to survive. While Legendary hasn’t confirmed anything, we might have already seen hints about how they’ll gain those upgrades, thanks to an unexpected leak.
Godzilla and Kong’s ‘Supernova’ Upgrades May Have Just Been Teased in a Mobile Game

Since the start of the Monsterverse, Godzilla and Kong have appeared in many video games, and now they’re coming to the mobile game Call of Duty. A recent post on April 9th hinted at their arrival, saying, “Heads up: The UAV Tower is detecting something…”
The image shows Godzilla swimming just beneath the surface, and his dorsal spines are visible. These spines look different from what we’ve seen before in the Monsterverse films. While we’re used to seeing his spines glow blue or pink, this time they’re glowing purple – a brand new look. Their shape is also noteworthy; they’re sharp, tall, and dagger-like, reminding fans of his design in the 2014 film rather than the more evolved look from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
As a huge monster movie fan, I was really poring over the latest images, and I spotted Kong in the background! He looks… different. It’s definitely him, but he’s changed a lot since the end of The New Empire. Remember how he was using that B.E.A.S.T. gauntlet in his fight with Skar King and Shimo? Well, now it looks like he’s got a full-body armored suit! It seems like it’s the finished version of that Monarch project – ‘Project Powerhouse’ – they were working on, designed to basically make Kong even more powerful as Earth’s protector.
‘Call of Duty’ Has Teased Monsterverse Elements Before

Although these details haven’t been officially confirmed for the upcoming Supernova movie, this wouldn’t be the first time Call of Duty revealed something about the Monsterverse. Back in 2022, the ice Titan Shimo was first shown in a Call of Duty: Warzone cave painting as part of the Operation: Monarch event, which connected to Godzilla vs. Kong.
Fans first got a glimpse of the character Shimo two years before Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire came out. This initial reveal, appearing before any official trailers, made it logical that upgrades for Godzilla and Kong would also be shown outside of a Godzilla X Kong: Supernova teaser. The excitement generated by the Shimo reveal in the online Godzilla community back in 2022 explains why continuing to promote content through Call of Duty is a smart marketing move.
