„A lot has become lost in translation.” Swen Vincke suggests that the scandal surrounding Divinity is a big misunderstanding

The gaming world has recently seen a lot of debate about using artificial intelligence in games.

The conversation began when it became known that Larian Studios is exploring generative AI. Following this, Daniel Vávra, lead of the Warhorse team behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and Adrian Chmielarz of The Astronauts (creators of Witchfire) shared their thoughts. Now, Swen Vicke, the CEO of Larian, has released a further statement on the subject.

We revealed our new RPG, Divinity, a week ago, and some of the details haven’t come across clearly.

At Larian, giving people freedom and ownership is central to everything we do. We focus on supporting our teams, creating great games, and delivering a positive experience for players. We believe that empowering individuals to work creatively and utilize their unique talents is the key to making the best possible RPGs.

We need to stay informed about new technologies, and we’re always working to improve our processes. When things aren’t working well or don’t fit our values, we adapt and make changes.

After the holidays, we’ll host a Q&A session with different teams so you can ask us anything about Divinity and how we make our games. We want to give you a better look behind the scenes!

The date will be announced in the new year. In the meantime, I wish everyone Happy Christmas!

We won’t know the details of how Larian Studios plans to use generative AI in their games until next year. Players are likely to have a lot of challenging questions for Swen Vincke and the development team.
