It’s been 15 years since the last major Elder Scrolls game, but we’ve had several smaller games in the meantime, including mobile titles like The Elder Scrolls: Castles and the ongoing The Elder Scrolls Online. Many fans are waiting for news about The Elder Scrolls 6, which is likely still years away. Now, another way to experience the world of Tamriel is disappearing: the mobile game The Elder Scrolls: Blades, which was also released on Nintendo Switch, is shutting down.
I was pretty bummed to hear that The Elder Scrolls: Blades is shutting down. I remember when it first came out on mobile back in 2019, and then later on the Switch in 2020. It’s been a while since they updated it, so honestly, it wasn’t a huge shock. They sent a message in the game saying the servers will be turned off on June 30th, and since there’s no way to play it offline, that’s it – the game is over. It’s already gone from the app stores and the Nintendo eShop, which is kind of sad.
The Elder Scrolls: Blades Delisted, With Full Server Shutdown Incoming

Like a lot of mobile games today, The Elder Scrolls: Blades is free to download and play, but offers optional purchases within the game. The story is set between the events of Oblivion and Skyrim, and you play as a former member of the Blades, an organization that no longer exists. While critics didn’t love it, the game initially attracted a lot of players, including myself, leading to some early success. However, the main story is quite short, and because the game hasn’t been updated in a while, it’s largely been forgotten by many fans.
As a big fan of The Elder Scrolls, I was really bummed to hear that Blades is shutting down. It had a cool, unique story within the Elder Scrolls universe, and it’s sad to think that lore will be lost when the servers go offline on June 30th. What’s especially frustrating is that, even though it’s on Switch and mobile, it never got an offline mode, so once the servers are gone, the game is just… unplayable. Bethesda announced it pretty quietly, just with a notification in the app. It’s the second mobile Elder Scrolls game to disappear this year, after Legends shut down earlier in 2024, and it’s a real shame.
The Elder Scrolls Blades to Shut down on June 30, 2026

Currently, Blades has been removed from app stores and is no longer available on the Nintendo eShop. This means new players can’t download it before the game shuts down. Even though it’s an older game that hasn’t been updated recently, losing an adventure in the world of The Elder Scrolls is disappointing while fans are still waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6.
If you still play the game on mobile or Switch, there’s a bit of good news. You’ll get a free pack of in-game money that will let you get anything from the shop for free until June 30th. This gives players who haven’t finished the story a chance to do so without having to worry about paying extra for things.
