The upcoming series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will feature a new Targaryen prince who stands out from the rest with his brown hair, rather than the family’s traditional silver. A recently released trailer offered fans a closer look at the characters and cast expected in the show, which is set to premiere in January 2026.
This trailer shows us more of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), especially how he interacts with the nobility of Westeros. One character, a Targaryen you might not immediately recognize due to his hair color, shows him a surprising amount of respect.
Baelor Targaryen Has Brown Hair In A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Because Of His Dornish Ancestry
The trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, released on December 4, 2025, shows Duncan, known as “Dunk,” being summoned by Baelor Targaryen (played by Bertie Carvel). Baelor isn’t trying to challenge Dunk, but rather to assess his character – to see if he’s a truly honorable and skilled knight, as fans of the original stories would expect.
Prince Baelor is the oldest son of King Daeron II Targaryen, featured in the story A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. His mother is Myriah Martell, and he strongly resembles her side of the family, which is uncommon for Targaryens. Like Oberyn Martell (played by Pedro Pascal) in Game of Thrones, both Myriah and Baelor have dark skin, hair, and eyes.
Baelor has the classic Targaryen look – strong, tall, and handsome – but he strongly resembles the Martells as well. More than just his appearance, he’s known throughout Westeros as a truly noble man, and many believe he’d make a great king when his father is gone.
Silver Hair Has Always Been Seen As An Example Of Targaryen Exceptionalism

Even someone as highly regarded as Baelor wasn’t universally liked, and some people criticized his brown hair, believing it made him unsuitable to be king. During the time of the stories in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Dorne had only just become part of the realm, after Daeron II married Myriah.
Many houses in Westeros are distrustful of the Dornish people. Their traditions are unique – they have more open views on relationships and give women more freedom – and they’re fiercely independent, being the only one of the Seven Kingdoms never to be conquered. Because of this, some people secretly believe that Baelor has more Dornish heritage than Targaryen.
It’s happened before in Targaryen history: having brown hair has caused suspicion. In House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra’s children are all born with brown hair, and many people whisper that they aren’t really Targaryens. Silver hair has always been considered a mark of true Targaryen heritage, and that belief continues in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
