The sixth episode of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ revealed something surprising that changes how we understand everything that’s happened so far, and gives us clues about what’s to come.
The latest episode of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ packed a powerful emotional punch, delivering humor, suspense, exciting action, and heartbreaking loss with a surprising character death.
The first season brought together Ser Duncan the Tall, a renowned knight, and his young squire, Egg. Halfway through the season, a significant secret about Egg was revealed.
The season ended with a surprising reveal about Dunk in a flashback scene. This changes everything we thought we knew about him and could significantly impact what happens next season. Be warned: SPOILERS follow…
Ser Duncan isn’t really a knight

Throughout the six episodes, Duncan strives to establish himself as a knight. The first half of the season centers on him convincing others that he and his former mentor, Ser Arlan, were part of the knightly order, while the second half focuses on him demonstrating he deserves the title himself.
He proves his honor by defending Tanselle and opposing Aerion, which ultimately inspires Prince Baelor to betray his family and support Dunk during the Trial of Seven. Baelor himself explains that Dunk “protected the innocent, as every true knight should.”
The big turning point happens around the middle of Episode 6, when Duncan asks Arlan – right before Arlan dies – why he never made him a knight.
It turns out Ser Duncan the Tall, the main character in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, isn’t actually a knight – and never was. This is a surprising reveal about his background.
Dunk the hypocrite and worrier

This discovery makes Dunk look like a hypocrite, since he heavily scolds and makes Egg feel bad for not being honest about who he is. However, it might also explain why Dunk is so willing to forgive the young prince.
His frequent anxiety throughout the series now feels justified, considering we learn Dunk was secretly living a false life and feared his deception would be revealed.
His deep unhappiness, constant self-doubt, and overall lack of confidence stemmed from never knowing the reason Ser Arlan didn’t knight him, as Ser Arlan passed away before he could explain why.
What revelation means for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2

During and after the Trial of Seven, Duncan demonstrated he was a true knight, which finally allowed the ghost of Ser Arlan to rest at the conclusion of the first season.
Because drama often involves conflict, it’s likely Egg will discover the truth next season, and this will probably cause problems between them.
Although Dunk isn’t a knight yet, everyone believes that stories of his courage and heroic deeds will one day fill history books, celebrating him as Ser Duncan the Tall.
Arlan hasn’t officially made his assistant a knight yet, but it’s likely he will soon. If he doesn’t, the show’s title might need to be updated.
