HBO has released the first official trailer for *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*, and many viewers are getting a *Star Wars* vibe from the *Game of Thrones* prequel.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place about a hundred years before the story of Game of Thrones begins. It’s a period in Westeros where magic, mythical creatures, and the threat of the undead don’t exist.
The story centers around Ser Duncan the Tall, known as Dunk and portrayed by Peter Claffey, and his adventures alongside Prince Aegon Targaryen, nicknamed Egg and played by Dexter Sol Ansell.
The initial trailer for the six-part series strongly resembles the atmosphere of a Star Wars film.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms channels beloved Star Wars show, The Mandalorian
You’re not imagining things – the central relationship in the new trailer for ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ feels a lot like the bond between The Mandalorian and Grogu from the Star Wars series.
It might be pretty clear, but both stories center around a traveling warrior protecting a younger person who is more complex than they appear. This kind of pairing has actually been around for a while, appearing as early as the 1976 manga *Lone Wolf & Cub*, and was also present in the *Dunk and Egg* novels published between 1998 and 2010. It’s a common theme in storytelling.
So, the first trailer for *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* just dropped, and it’s awesome! It finally shows us Dunk and Egg, and it’s really cool to see Westeros how it used to be – before all the wars and dragons showed up. It’s a much more peaceful time, honestly.
I’m super excited – the new show kicks off on HBO on January 18, 2026! From what I’ve heard, if it does well, they’re planning to adapt all three of the ‘Dunk and Egg’ stories, which would be amazing.
