A Godzilla X Kong: Supernova Theory About SpaceGodzilla’s Role Would Change The Entire Direction Of The Monsterverse

Everyone agrees that SpaceGodzilla will be the main villain in the upcoming movie, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, which is scheduled to release in 2027. Because of this, Godzilla fans are already speculating about all sorts of details – like his origins, how he’ll get to Earth (or the Hollow Earth), and what he’ll look like.

Fans are most curious about where Kong comes from and how he can fight such a strong enemy, but a lot of interesting discussion centers on what SpaceGodzilla’s purpose will be in the larger Monsterverse story. Although unconfirmed plot details have led to many imaginative ideas, one theory seems particularly likely and could significantly change the direction of the entire Monsterverse narrative.

A Theory States SpaceGodzilla Will Be A Herald For Something Far Worse

Up until now, the Monsterverse films have focused on standalone villains who haven’t really been connected. While Ghidorah’s head was used to control Mechagodzilla for a time, and Ghidorah eventually took over the robot, most of the monsters have appeared in a single movie and been defeated without leaving much for future stories.

A new idea about SpaceGodzilla suggests he might not be the main villain after all, and could actually signal the beginning of the end for the Monsterverse. Instead of being the ultimate threat, the theory proposes SpaceGodzilla is a warning of something even more dangerous to come – similar to how characters like Marvel’s Silver Surfer foreshadowed Galactus, or Steppenwolf hinted at Darkseid in DC Comics. Essentially, SpaceGodzilla, despite his power, could just be a precursor to the real big bad of the Monsterverse.

When SpaceGodzilla first appeared in the movie Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, he wanted to reshape Earth into a world made of crystals and become its ruler. In Supernova, his motivations seem different – he might be trying to destroy all Titans and humans who could challenge the main villain.

SpaceGodzilla Came Before The Heisei Era’s Big Bad In His First Appearance

This idea isn’t entirely new, as SpaceGodzilla appeared in a Godzilla film right before the monster many fans see as the last major villain of the Heisei series. Although the two monsters weren’t connected, Godzilla fought Destoroyah after defeating SpaceGodzilla, and ultimately died in that battle from a catastrophic nuclear meltdown.

Many fans of the MonsterVerse thought Destoroyah would be the final villain in the Godzilla and Kong story, with SpaceGodzilla appearing first as a sign of Destoroyah’s coming. However, Destoroyah’s origins aren’t connected to space. He first appeared when an ancient colony of crustaceans was mutated and rapidly evolved by the Oxygen Destroyer weapon used in the original Godzilla movie.

With the Oxygen Destroyer already appearing in the Monsterverse films, the groundwork for Destoroyah is in place. However, I believe the ultimate villain introduced by SpaceGodzilla will more likely be another cosmic-level Godzilla foe, such as Hedorah, Gigan, Orga, or Monster X/Keizer Ghidorah. Monster X seems like the most logical choice, but the recent trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 revealed “Titan X,” making that possibility less probable.

Some longtime Godzilla fans might not like the idea, but introducing a completely new Titan – like Shimo, Skar King, or even the MUTOs before them – could be a great move. A powerful, never-before-seen cosmic enemy would be thrilling, and Legendary has proven they’re good at creating and adding new monsters to the Monsterverse.

Introducing a truly major villain would be a first for the Monsterverse, marking the first time a story arc has been intentionally built across multiple films. While the connection between Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla was hinted at briefly after the credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, it wasn’t a strong setup for the character. If Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire introduces SpaceGodzilla as a sign of things to come, the movie would need to establish clear storylines and foreshadowing to prepare audiences for the final showdown.
