As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has truly been a breath of fresh air in the RPG landscape. Having played the original back in ’88 on my trusty NES, it’s heartening to see this classic being revived and made accessible to a new generation of gamers.

Revisiting a classic JRPG gem, the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, just landed on Steam, offering PC gamers a long-awaited chance to immerse themselves in this influential game that was previously console-bound. Despite its success, amassing a record-breaking 45,357 simultaneous players shortly after launch (the highest for a singleplayer RPG from Square Enix), the remake has faced some criticism, evident by only garnering a 70% positive rating on Steam. However, a dedicated moder named Lyall is working diligently to rectify some of the game’s issues.

The outcome of his project development is the DQ3Fix mod. To start with, this project facilitates the elimination of the frame rate limit and offers flexibility in configuring the resolution, making it compatible with various monitor types, including ultrawide screens. This adaptation ensures that the Field of View (FOV) adapts flawlessly to any aspect ratio, and furthermore, HUD elements are consistently centered for optimal viewing.

Mod adds full support for ultrawide resolutions.

This modification empowers players with the freedom to bypass the opening videos and access the developers’ toolkit. With this toolkit, a plethora of unconventional features hidden beyond the usual menu can be activated.

As a devoted enthusiast, I’m excited to share that the DQ3Fix project is still in its infancy. The current iteration of this fantastic modification goes by version 0.0.2. Rest assured, Lyall has some exciting enhancements up his sleeve, planned for future updates of this mod.
