‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ TV Series Dead at Hulu

The planned television adaption by Hulu of the highly acclaimed romantic fantasy book series “A Court of Thorns and Roses” penned by Sarah J. Maas has been canceled.

Since March 2021, the project has been under development at Hulu, which is also owned by Disney along with Disney’s 20th Television. Sarah Maas, who is well-known among fans as the author of the “ACOTAR” book series, has collaborated on the TV scripts for this project alongside Ronald D. Moore, the creator of “Outlander”.

Ever since the summer of 2023, there’s been a dearth of news about the series, as both the writer’s strike and actor’s strike halted nearly all scripted work and progression in its tracks. As a movie enthusiast who’s been eagerly awaiting updates, it’s left me hanging on the edge of my seat, much like the characters in the show I’m so fond of!

As of last February, TVLine announced that the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” television series had ceased development at Hulu and was not being offered to other platforms. At that point, sources informed EbMaster that the show remained technically in production but was no longer actively developed, with Disney’s 20th Television holding the rights until late Summer 2025.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m on the hunt for securing the television adaptation rights of “ACOTAR” with a new studio and streaming platform post the expiration of my option with Disney, according to confidants involved in the project. (EbMaster)

As a cinephile, I reached out to both 20th Television and Hulu, but they’ve kept mum on the matter. I haven’t heard back from Maas’ representatives regarding my inquiry either.

The debut book of the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series, focusing on 19-year-old huntress Feyre Archeron, was released in May 2015. After slaying a faerie wolf in the forest, she is taken to the enchanted realm of Prythian by Tamlin, who holds a position as one of the seven High Lords. During her stay at Tamlin’s summer court residence, Feyre gradually uncovers that everything she thought she knew about the faerie realm was deceitful.

After the triumph of my first novel, Maas penned four sequels: “A Court of Mist and Fury,” “A Court of Wings and Ruin,” “A Court of Frost and Starlight,” and “A Court of Silver Flames.” Currently, there’s a sixth book in the works, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
