As a huge fan of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, I’m really excited to hear what’s next! From what I understand, Bowser Jr. is going to be the main source of trouble for Mario and the gang in the sequel. Apparently, he’s determined to rescue his dad, Bowser, which will send everyone on a wild adventure… all the way into space! It sounds like he’s really taking center stage this time around, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
Details about the movie are still scarce, but the marketing materials suggest it might draw inspiration from Bowser Jr.’s initial attempt to get revenge on Mario, as seen in Super Mario Galaxy.
Bowser Jr. Has Access To Multiple Forms In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
We’ve already seen three different designs for Bowser Jr. in the upcoming movie. Besides his classic appearance, he’ll also have the powerful “Wonder Bowser Jr.” form that debuted in the latest Super Mario Wonder game.
The movie also gave us a first look at a new form for Bowser Jr., closely inspired by Fury Bowser from Super Mario World 3D World’s “Bowser’s Fury.” It seems he’ll get his own version of the powerful “Fury” upgrade during the story, meaning villains will be able to gain special abilities too – it won’t just be the heroes!
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Could Introduce Bowser Jr.’s Shadow Mario Form
It’s still unclear how Bowser Jr. unlocks his Fury and Wonder forms, but the fact he has two transformations is interesting and might hint at what’s to come in the story, especially if he gains more. If the game introduces another transformation, Shadow Mario would be a fitting choice, given its significance to Bowser Jr.’s past.
In the game, Bowser Jr.’s plan revolved around a disguise: he transformed into “Shadow Mario” and cleverly tricked everyone into believing Mario was the culprit behind the stolen Shine Sprites and the mess on Isle Delfino. This forced Mario to spend most of the game proving his innocence, ultimately revealing Bowser Jr. as the one behind the deception.
The recent trailer suggests the new Super Mario Bros. Movie might include Wonder Flower transformations, and sets the stage for this possibility. Bowser Jr. is shown with a magic paintbrush in both the game and the trailer, and it appears to be what allows him to transform, hinting at a similar mechanic being featured in the film.
The same paintbrush was used to create Bowser’s Shadow Mario form in Super Mario Sunshine. Considering this, it’s likely that all three of Bowser’s forms – Fury, Wonder, and Shadow Mario – will play a role in his plans involving the magic paintbrush in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
