Metroid Prime 4: Beyond release date barely makes the cut for 2025 with a few weeks to spare

Today, the long-awaited release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been officially unveiled. In a detailed Nintendo Direct broadcast this morning, Nintendo gave us a glimpse of several upcoming games for both the original console and the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2. The latest trailer for Metroid Prime 4 provided a peek into the game’s captivating world and introduced a brand-new vehicle. With the presentation fast approaching, I found myself growing increasingly concerned that this game might be pushed back once more. However, my worries have now been alleviated as we now know that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will hit shelves on December 4th, 2025.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will launch on December 4th, just barely making it into 2025

The creation of Metroid Prime 4 has been a prolonged and turbulent journey, but there was optimism that it would be released this year. Early in the year, a 2025 release window was announced, yet with only a few months remaining, concerns began to arise. This was particularly true after recent Nintendo presentations failed to provide any updates on its launch date. However, we now have confirmation that it will appear in the 2025 calendar with just a handful of weeks left before the year’s end.

Besides the anticipated launch date, today’s fresh trailer also unveiled a novel addition to Samus’ equipment: a sleek, advanced motorcycle. At first glance in the trailer’s opening scenes, you might not immediately recognize it as a Metroid game. However, when Samus is seen grasping the bike with her hands, it starts to feel more familiar. The video subsequently shows Samus navigating this vehicle across various landscapes, and at one point, gracefully dismounting and swiftly shifting into first-person perspective.

It appears that this “high-tech bicycle” goes by the name Vi-O-La, and it seems to introduce a unique gameplay style not previously shown in prior previews. In this trailer, Samus speeds through a desert landscape, engaging other mobile foes, shooting from the bike, and even using a slide to smash through enemies. This sneak peek expands the world far beyond my initial expectations, which is thrilling. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long until December 4th, when the much-anticipated game Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be released on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
