Where Winds Meet: Qianye Boss Fight Guide

Qianye is a particularly challenging boss encountered early in Where Winds Meet. Unlike other bosses in Qianhe, players must defeat her to progress the main story. She’s incredibly difficult on the Legend difficulty setting, and remains a tough fight even on easier settings.

Beating Qianye requires persistence, but Where Winds Meet provides several options to help you improve your character and become more powerful. If you’re having trouble with this boss, here are some helpful strategies to try.

Where Winds Meet: Qianye Boss Guide

The most important thing to remember when fighting Qianye is learning to deflect her attacks. While her moves look scary, they’re actually quite predictable.

These tips are designed for the hardest difficulty, Legend. If you’re playing on an easier setting, you’ll likely find things a bit simpler.

First Phase

Okay, so the first phase of this fight is actually pretty manageable. Qianye isn’t throwing everything she’s got yet, and thankfully, Yi Dao is there to help. I’ve been focusing on deflecting her attacks and then sneaking in a few quick hits whenever she finishes an attack – basically, punish her recovery frames. Just keep doing that and you’ll whittle down her health bar pretty quickly.

Be careful when Qianye jumps onto the arena edge – she’ll prepare a powerful gold attack that can’t be blocked or deflected. Your only options are to dodge at the perfect moment, or use your Meridian Touch ability to interrupt her jump. Watch for an icon appearing on Qianye as she attacks; when you see it, immediately use Meridian Touch on her.

Phase One Tips

  • Bind Meridian Touch to a button you can easily reach.
  • Whenever she starts an unblockable combo, wait for her scythe to flash before parrying.
  • You should be blocking every time you aren’t attacking or parrying.
  • When you break Qianye’s stance, don’t immediately use your finisher attack. Instead, squeeze in as much damage as you can before doing it.
  • You’ll want to have at least three healing charges for this fight.

Second Phase

Phase Two is when the fight really heats up. Qianye becomes much more attacking, with longer and more powerful combos. Landing her hits fills a meter that will cause you to take burning damage. Blocking isn’t very effective in this phase, as you’ll still build up burn damage even when guarding, so it’s important to learn how to parry her attacks.

The best way to learn Qianye’s attacks is by using Practice Mode. After you’re defeated by her, you’ll have the chance to practice fighting her without losing any resources or damaging your items. Taking a few rounds in Practice Mode will help you understand her moveset much faster.

Okay, so when Qianye gets down to half health, things get really tricky. She’ll pull you into this mirror dimension under the floor, and you have to fight… another Qianye! But this isn’t just a copy-paste; she has a totally different set of moves. The white version is still super aggressive, but here’s the worst part: while you’re down there in the mirror dimension, your health just keeps ticking down, so you’re on a timer to beat her!

To get through this part of the fight, you need to block every attack. But that’s not all – you also have to be very aggressive. We suggest using Cloud Steps or a weapon that lets you quickly close the distance, like the Noname/Nameless Sword. When you have an opening, get close to Qianye and keep attacking with quick strikes. If you deal enough damage, she’ll switch back to her normal form.

Phase Two Tips

  • Be very passive when fighting Black Qianye. Let her come to you, and focus on parrying and counter-attacking.
  • Be very aggressive when fighting White Qianye. When she isn’t attacking, she just walks menacingly around you.
  • White Qianye will always attack when she teleports around you. They’re the perfect opportunities to parry.
  • Black Qianye’s attacks are very predictable. It’ll take some time before you memorize the timing of her combos, though.
  • If you’re having trouble managing your health, bring a Panacea Fan.

After defeating Qianye, you’ll watch a lengthy cutscene, marking the end of the game’s first chapter. From there, the story takes you to Kaifeng in Where Winds Meet, but you’re free to finish exploring the Qianhe region before continuing on.
