„Hytale is saved.” Hypixel team announces that they bought back Hytale from Riot

Good news for fans of Hytale! Simon, the founder of Hypixel Studios, announced today that the game has been rescued. Hytale started as a project from the team behind the popular Minecraft server, Hypixel. They began developing it with support from Riot Games in 2018, creating a sandbox RPG inspired by Minecraft. Unfortunately, development faced challenges, and the game was cancelled in June. However, Simon quickly began discussions to buy back the rights from Riot Games. Today, he announced on social media that he’s successfully purchased Hytale, meaning development can continue.

“We did it. Hytale is saved.” Simon from Hypixel shares that they have bought back the game

The news first appeared on social media, but the Hytale Team followed up with a detailed blog post explaining the situation and future plans. Remarkably, they’ve already brought back over 30 developers who previously worked on the game, with more expected to rejoin soon – a fantastic start to reviving the project. Considering the game was cancelled years ago, it would have been understandable if many of the original Hypixel Studios team had moved on. The team has also committed to fully funding Hytale independently for the next decade.

The team behind Hytale is preparing to launch an early access version of the game very soon. They plan to announce the release date, along with pricing details, gameplay videos, patch information, and a future development plan in the next few days. In a recent post, Simon explained that Hytale is still a work in progress – it’s not a fully polished, high-budget game yet and has some rough edges. However, the team wants players to start experiencing the game as soon as possible. As Simon put it, they’re done with waiting and are ready to share the game, even with its imperfections.

It’s important to remember that Riot Games has actually been helpful in this situation. Simon doesn’t fault the publisher, and shared today that they were instrumental in reaching a positive outcome. He stated, “A huge thanks to Riot for working with me to make this happen. They prioritized what’s best for players – ultimately, letting us play the game.”

After seven years in development, this is welcome news for dedicated fans of Hytale. While a full launch may still be a ways off, the return of the original development team and the studio’s new independence are very encouraging. Players might be able to start playing Hytale sooner than expected, which is a fantastic turnaround after the project was previously cancelled.
