Riot Games is quickly building on the success of its League of Legends card game, Riftbound, with a new expansion called Spiritforged. Following the release of the first set, Origins, Spiritforged will add fresh gameplay elements and further develop the game’s already engaging mechanics.

Let’s talk about the new Equipment cards. These cards are a special type that you attach to your units to boost their strength. What’s really cool is that even if a unit equipped with an item is defeated, the item itself stays in the game, letting you move it to another unit – that means you get a lot of use out of each one!
The new Spinning Axe equipment is a powerful addition, especially when used with Draven. You can play it immediately as a reaction, giving you a +3 bonus that can surprise your enemies. When combined with Draven’s ability to draw a card after each combat win, it creates a truly formidable combination that will leave opponents reeling.

Gold is a special token created by various card abilities. Players can sacrifice Gold to reduce the cost of recycling runes, letting them access runes more quickly and accelerate the fast-paced gameplay. Recent champions, like Renata Glasc, can both create Gold and enhance its value – Renata can make Gold cover the cost of two runes later in the game. By using Renata’s ability effectively, powerful spells like Time Warp become easier to cast sooner, potentially leading to a swift win.
Riot is introducing “Repeat” spells, which can be cast twice if you pay their cost again. Because the game’s rune system, Riftbound, already provides plenty of resources, players shouldn’t have trouble doing this. When combined with ways to earn gold, you could potentially cast a lot of spells in one turn! This new feature is making Spiritforged, Riot’s trading card game, even faster and more focused on powerful combinations.
It’s still months away from the February 13th, 2026 launch of Spiritforged, so we can expect to see more updates and surprises before then.
