The Showmanship of the Savannah Bananas Won Late Night This Week

What’s been happening in the news recently? Is there anything for humor related to current events? We’re going to follow in the footsteps of Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers by briefly mentioning that hurting people is wrong before moving on. Meyers, specifically, highlighted how much gun violence, politics, and politically motivated gun violence the American public is exposed to continuously and stressed that it needs to stop. This column often discusses how late-night television finds itself in a tricky situation by becoming a platform for processing current events. It can be challenging, some might argue even counterproductive, to try to find humor in every week’s tragedy immediately after it happens. We offer our condolences to the comedy writers who’d rather focus on another video of Biden falling up the stairs but instead are making jokes about trauma they haven’t had time to process yet. And now, back to slapstick humor and raunchy jokes.

Jimmy Kimmel Takes on Shrinkflation

The Jimmy Kimmel’s Monday monologue features a simple yet intriguing cutaway sketch: a store offering items at half price because they are literally halved. Watching these grocery items neatly bisected is remarkably pleasing, much like the popularity of YouTube channels showing objects being pressed by hydraulic presses. This sketch thrives on the simple curiosity and fascination of witnessing common objects like a milk carton split in half.

Seth Reiss’s Whopper Mouth

Did you know that the author of the future hopecore classic “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” is also the writer behind “The Menu”? Remarkably, he’s the staff member on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” who was once mistaken for Paul Rudd by Lizzo! It’s quite astonishing, but it’s a fact. Seth Reiss, in a testament to the supportive work environment at “Late Night,” even appeared on his boss’s show to discuss his side projects. In true Reiss fashion, he concealed his beard with mayonnaise from a Whopper before making these revelations, humorously referring to cutting through his own unnecessary complications!

Jon Stewart Reckons With His Audience

On Monday, during two separate jokes at The Daily Show, the audience seemed to anticipate Jon Stewart’s punchlines before him, demonstrating why he is highly regarded in his field. His ability to sense and respond to the audience’s reaction adds an engaging quality to the show, making viewers feel as if they’re inviting him into their homes.

In one instance, when discussing a Planet Earth-style narration of Donald Trump being eaten by lions, the audience was eager to applaud but Stewart persisted in delivering the punchline – that the lions were enjoying a meal of “cankles au poivre.” Another time, after an audience’s enthusiastic reaction to a joke about Trump’s neck resembling Betty White’s cat, Stewart humorously finished the joke by acknowledging their discomfort with a sheepish flourish, saying he would have added something else but it seemed they weren’t on board. The conclusion of the joke was that Trump’s neck looked so much like White’s cat that Milton Berle tried to seduce it.

Have I Got News for You Teaches the Controversy

The British comedy panel show “Have I Got News for You” kicked off its new season on Saturday, discussing the amusing responses from Governor Gavin Newsom to President Trump’s antics using AI videos and Twitter posts. Host Roy Wood Jr. commented that while the humor was entertaining, it might not have been worth the environmental impact of AI production. Michael Ian Black criticized these actions as inappropriate for a governor, with Amber Ruffin and Representative Jasmine Crockett arguing vehemently against this viewpoint. Ruffin in particular pointed out Trump’s ability to post senseless content daily yet still achieve detrimental results. To wrap up the debate, Dave Foley diplomatically complimented Black’s idealism before adding that it might be more fitting in 2025. In essence, all aspects of the story were explored with a humorous touch, thanks to Foley’s clever closing remarks.

The Future of Entertainment Is Carnival Sideshows

Did you ever see an episode of “The Drew Carey Show” where all the characters transformed into strippers similar to those from the movie “The Full Monty”? I’m a bit hazy on the details, but I remember they put on a UPS-themed strip show with boxes rotating around their waist areas. The point is, Banana Ball is all about embracing masculinity in a fun and playful way, much like what those strippers did. That’s why it was exciting to see the Bananas perform on “The Tonight Show.” Even the referee got into the act with some impressive moves! However, I couldn’t help but feel that a dance-off between the Bananas and their rivals, the Party Animals, would have made things even more entertaining. We’re living in a new era, much like the Gilded Age, and the Savannah Bananas are the perfect blend of 19th-century entertainment adapted for the 21st century.
