With the explosive conclusion of Season 3, it’s only natural to ask: will there be more episodes? Let’s delve into what we’ve learned following an exhilarating announcement by Apple TV+.
While it may not be the largest streaming platform globally, Apple TV+ boasts some truly exceptional shows. Titles such as Severance, Slow Horses, The Morning Show, and Masters of the Air, to name a few, prove that it houses some of the finest content ever created.
The Foundation is equally renowned, as its adaptation follows Isaac Asimov’s iconic science fiction novels sharing the same title. The narrative unfolds thousands of years from now, detailing the adventures of a group of outcasts as they strive to rescue mankind and reestablish civilization within the decaying Galactic Empire.
Following the release of the Season 3 finale, everyone’s eagerly awaiting what happens next, and here’s some exciting news just for you! Caution: Potential spoilers from Season 3 follow below!
Will there be a Foundation Season 4?
Yes, Apple TV+ confirmed Foundation Season 4 is going ahead.
On September 11, 2025, right before the Season 3 finale was due to air, it was confirmed by the co-showrunners and executive producers, Ian Goldberg and David Kob, that the show has been renewed for another season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, they expressed in a unified statement that “We consider ourselves fortunate and privileged to take on the role of co-showrunners for Season 4 of Foundation, as there’s simply no other series quite like it.
We’re excited to carry on with the captivating, heartfelt narrative that characterized the initial three seasons of the series, and to collaborate with remarkable, dedicated creative minds within the industry.
Is there a release date?
Because the show has recently been renewed, a specific air date hasn’t been announced as of now. Nevertheless, filming for Season 4 is expected to begin in 2026. Consequently, we can anticipate the release of fresh episodes approximately in the year 2027.
In a similar fashion to past seasons, this one is also slated for the same release pattern. It initially premiered in September 2021, and its successor followed suit in July 2023.
The Season 3 premiere happened in July 2025, marking a slightly extended wait, considering the Hollywood strikes were a factor. If the pattern continues, we can anticipate summer 2027 as a possible release time, but at this point, nothing is definitive.
Who will be in the cast?
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming game. Though the official cast isn’t out yet, it’s a given that some beloved characters from the past will reappear on my screen.
- Jared Harris as Hari Seldon
- Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick
- Synnøve Karlsen as Bayta Mallow
- Terrence Mann plays Brother Dusk
- Cassian Bilton plays Brother Dawn
- Troy Kotsur as Preem Palver
- Cherry Jones as Foundation Ambassador Quent
- Alexander Siddig as Dr Ebling Mis
- Cody Fern as Toran Mallow
- Brandon P Bell as Han Pritcher
- Tómas Lemarquis as Magnifico Giganticus
- Leo Bill as Mayor Indbur
Regarding characters Lee Pace portrays as Brother Day and Laura Birn as Demerzel in Foundation Season 3, it’s uncertain if they will appear again following the series events. However, considering the show’s penchant for clones, flashbacks, and unexpected turns, it’s not completely out of question that we might see them return.
Foundation Season 3 ending explained
In simple terms, the final episode of Season 3 in Foundation brought about disorder, sorrow, and a monumental change within the Empire. A major surprise was unveiled regarding the true identity of The Mule.
Gaal appears to conquer the Mule, but surprisingly, it’s later revealed that he was just a distraction. In truth, Bayta was the one behind the scenes, masterminding the events, and it was she who was the real Mule.
Discussing the surprising turn in the story (that deviates from the original books), Synnøve Karlsen told Radio Times, “Learning about this impending twist only heightened my excitement for her character.
Initially, she might seem a bit absent-minded or uncaring, but once I discovered this, it became an intriguing aspect for me.
Apart from this, another startling event unfolds within the Apple TV+ series. As Brother Dusk prepares for his demise, he decides to obliterate the dynasty of Cleon by destroying the clone tanks that were meant to produce future rulers. This act of destruction erases centuries-long genetic lineage in a single violent moment.
It appears that he intends to save only one infant clone, but instead, he takes the baby to a place where it will be eliminated by a beam of light. Moved by her programming, Demerzel selflessly jumps into the deadly beam to shield the child, ultimately sacrificing her own life in the process.
In a different wording, Brother Day attempts revenge, yet without his nanites, he has no hope. As night falls, Dusk defeats him, thus solidifying his position as the undisputed Emperor.
Despite all the destruction, there are signs of optimism. The last action by Demerzel leads Ambassador Felice Quent to the Trantor library, where it’s discovered that the concealed Second Foundation continues to operate.
Simultaneously, a connection between the robots suggests that Demerzel might not have been as solitary as she believed.
Before they passed away, Day gave Demerzel a robotic head. At the finale of Foundation Season 3, this robot head successfully finishes connecting with others – essentially forming a collective robotic consciousness – and transmits this knowledge throughout the universe.
As I gaze at the last frame, I can’t help but marvel – it seems those mechanical wonders have landed on none other than Earth’s very own moon!
Season 4 plot speculation
In the vast cosmos of gaming, I find myself at the beginning of Season 4 where there’s no dominant empire, the enigmatic Second Foundation is revealing its true self, and the cunning Mule is readying his next move to once more cross swords with Gaal.
According to Llobell’s statement in the Radio Times, “She finds herself on the Beggar’s journey, unsure of where the Second Foundation is located, and now faces a new Mule to manage, one whose powers she’s not fully familiar with. This means she needs to reevaluate everything that has transpired so far.
Simultaneously, the robot grasps and Kalle’s presence next to another machine in Season 3’s finale hints at the upcoming major development in the series adaptation: a robot uprising.
In the style of Asimov’s novels, it’s expected that the Second Foundation will rise to prominence, exerting subtle yet significant control over events. This could result in the emergence of novel characters and groups as the course of human history teeters on a precipice.
As Dusk clutches the Prime Radiant, fresh with the memory of Demerzel’s selfless act, all is set for Foundation to embark on its grandest chapter yet.
In the meantime, as we anticipate further news, let’s explore the exciting new TV series streaming this month. So far in 2025, these have been some of the best shows to air, and our 2025 TV schedule provides a sneak peek at upcoming releases as well. Enjoy!
