As a huge Marvel fan, I’m so excited about the Wonder Man show! Marvel has finally confirmed what powers Simon Williams (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) will have in the MCU, and they sound seriously awesome and potentially game-changing for future battles. While the trailers have been teasing the show’s Hollywood vibe and Simon’s acting career, it’s amazing to know that this character, who’s a powerhouse in the comics, is about to bring some incredible abilities to the screen. I can’t wait to see what he can do!
The recent teaser offered just a quick look at Simon’s powers, hinting he can create explosions. Now, a new interview has revealed the full range of his abilities.
According to the Winter 2025 issue of Disney’s D23 Magazine (as reported by TopMob), Andrew Guest, showrunner for the upcoming Wonder Man series, and Brian Gay, a director of production and development at Marvel Studios, discussed the powers of the character Simon Williams.
Andrew Guest said Wonder Man is exceptionally powerful, highlighting his three key abilities: super speed, super strength, and the power to generate huge explosions.
He possesses immense power, more than he even realizes, but he’s surprisingly unconcerned with it. What he does care about is becoming an actor like Daniel Day-Lewis.
Brian Gay revealed that Simon is unaware of the full potential of his abilities, as his primary focus is on pursuing an acting career.
Simon has superpowers, and while he wants to use them to do good, he really dreams of becoming an actor. It’s tough, though, because he lives in a world full of superheroes where alien invasions are a real possibility, and he’s still figuring out exactly what his powers can do.
The reactions to Wonder Man really highlight the central struggle of the new Disney+ show: Simon is torn between becoming a hero and achieving his lifelong ambition.
Simon’s journey in Wonder Man might focus on him learning to control his abilities while navigating the demands of a Hollywood career. Without a seasoned hero to guide him, like She-Hulk, it could be a real challenge, particularly with the Department of Damage Control watching his every move.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who brought us Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Wonder Man centers on Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor and stunt performer who aspires to acting success—not superheroics. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars as the title character, with Sir Ben Kingsley reprising his role as Trevor Slattery, alongside Demetrius Grosse and Arian Moayed. Wonder Man will debut on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
Wonder Man’s 3 Major Powers, Explained
Super Strength

It’s no surprise Simon Williams has super strength – he’s demonstrated impressive power throughout his history in Marvel Comics.
Since the MCU version of this hero has similar powers to the comic books, it’s likely he could fight well against powerful heroes like Hulk and Thor. His incredible strength also suggests he might be a match for Bob, also known as Sentry.
Super Speed

I’m always amazed by how incredibly fast Simon Williams is! It’s not just about running; his reactions are lightning quick, which is a huge advantage when he’s trying to avoid those persistent agents from the Department of Damage Control. It really helps him stay one step ahead.
With so few characters possessing super speed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – particularly after Quicksilver’s death and Makkari leaving Earth – giving Wonder Man the ability to move at incredible speeds could be a great asset to the Avengers in future conflicts.
Explosions

Simon Williams has a remarkably unique power: he can generate huge explosions by manipulating ionic energy. However, this ability is unstable and could be hazardous if he loses control.
A key part of the Wonder Man story might involve Simon learning to master his dangerous powers. The show could build to a final battle where he confidently uses explosions, demonstrating that he’s finally in control.
